The Deconstruction of Digital Transformation
Guest post by Intellyx Principal Analyst Charles Araujo
The complex idea behind the term digital transformation is that technology
has created a fundamental shift in how organizations operate. The
consumerization of technology - and the customer empowerment it created - has
upended the traditional operating paradigm of organizations moving it away
from a capital and process-centric model to a customer-centric one.
The need to digitally transform your organization is now - or at least should
be - a strategic imperative. The fact, however, that the term digital
transformation is now a bona fide buzzword has obfuscated its importance.
The problem is that we create buzzwords because we need a simple, shorthand
way of communicating what is otherwise a complex idea. In the process,
however, the deeper, underlying complexity of the... (more)

The Internet of Things is the biggest idea since the creation of the
Worldwide Web more than 20 years ago.
Why? Because the "things" are not just desktops, laptops, smartphones, and
tablets. The "things" come from the world of sensor-driven Big Data that is
even now expanding the size of the Web beyond what we thought just a few
years ago.
How big? Estimates from everyone from Gartner to the US Government foresee a
100X time increase - then a 1,000X increase - in Web traffic over the next
few years. The world will need hundreds of billions of dollars of new
servers, memory, storage, and data centers. The challenge to software
developers will be increasing as never before.
In this @ThingsExpo Power Panel, on June 9 at our New York City studio,
@ThingsExpo conference chair Roger Strukhoff will lead a discussion with

Kin Lane recently wrote a couple of blogs about why copyrighting an API is
not common. I couldn’t agree more that copyrighting APIs is uncommon. First
of all, the API definition is just an interface (It is the implementation
detail that is important, and needs to be guarded), so it doesn’t make any
sense to copyright an interface. (It is almost like copyrighting a pretty
face ). Secondly, the whole idea of exposing an API is you are looking for
others to finish the work you started by just providing the plumbing work.
Why would anyone want to get involved with a copyrighted API and finish your
work for you?
Kin Lane says, “API copyright would prevent the reuse and remix of common
or successful API patterns within a space. We are at a point where
aggregating common, popular APIs into single, standardized interfaces is
emerging as the next evolution in web and mobil... (more)
A completely new computing platform is on the horizon. They're called
Microservers by some, ARM Servers by others, and sometimes even ARM-based
Servers. No matter what you call them, Microservers will have a huge impact
on the data center and on server computing in general.
What Is a Microserver...and What Isn't
Although few people are familiar with Microservers today, their impact will
be felt very soon. This is a new category of computing platform that is
available today and is predicted to have triple-digit growth rates for some
years to come - growing to over 20% of the server market by 2016 according to

Industry Report).

The goal of any DevOps solution is to optimize multiple processes in an
organization. And success does not necessarily require that in executing the
strategy everything needs to be automated to produce an effective plan. Yet,
it is important that processes are put in place to handle a necessary list of

Ten Myths of Cloud Computing
Cloud computing is transforming the way businesses think about and leverage
technology. As a result, the general understanding of cloud computing has
come a long way in a short time. However, there are still many misconceptions
about what cloud computing is and what it can do for businesses that adopt
this game-changing computing model. In this exclusive Q&A; with Cloud Expo
Conference Chair Jeremy Geelan, Rex Wang, Vice President of Product Marketing
at Oracle, discusses and dispels some of the common myths about cloud
computing that still exist today.
Cloud Computing Journal: Why do you think organizations often misunderstand
cloud computing?
Rex Wang: Overall, the understanding of cloud computing has come a long way
over the past few years. Cloud technology is being embraced by a growing
number of organizations each year, while other... (more)
