Top Two Technology Priorities for CIOs in 2011: Cloud & Virtualization

"New infrastructure and operations technologies such as cloud services and virtualization ... were selected by CIOs the most often and are the top-two technologies for 2011," said Mark McDonald, group vice president and head of research for Gartner Executive Programs, as the results were announced of the 2011 CIO Agenda survey by Gartner Executive Programs (EXP). "CIOs and IT have been boxed in between modest budget growth and growing legacy requirements," McDonald continued, noting that "Cloud services and virtualization are well-suited for this budget reality, as they offer similar service levels at lower budget costs." The worldwide CIO survey was conducted by Gartner EXP from September to December 2010 and represents CIO budget plans reported at that time. Making the Most of Agile Project Management for Your Business

Agile project management and not just project management is the need of the hour. We've all heard about agile software development, and agile project management is a leaf out of the same book. Much like the former that follows an iterative approach towards software development, the latter also involves breaking down a particular project into a series of sections called iterations. In this particular case, each section has to be completed in a particular amount of time (usually two weeks) and upon the completion of each section, it's comprehensively critiqued by the various stakeholders of the project. This allows the team to get insights about the mistakes made, how they could have bettered that particular section and how they can improve upon the next iteration. Processing XML with C# and .NET

Microsoft's counterpiece to Java, the new C# programming language with its rich .NET library, uses XML as a core technology. This article presents some basic ideas, for example creating and manipulating a DOM tree, and reading and writing XML streams. I also compare .NET's solution with the SAX model, and finally I show how a complex XSLT algorithm can be more simply implemented in C#.
