To the President of Syria, Mr. and Mrs. Bashar al-Assad
Mr. and Mrs. President Bashar al-Assad:
At the tender age of 17 months my severely ill daughter Sofia, an American
citizen, was abducted by her mother on Monday, July 26, in Istanbul, Turkey,
and taken to Syria.
Fox News: ▸ video ▸ story
I was informed yesterday by Sofia's mother that she will not be coming back
to the United States nor will she allow Sofia to return home.
Sofia has been diagnosed with a severe medical condition that requires
immediate treatment in the United States. It was scheduled to start on July
27, 2010, in New Jersey, the day after her abduction and was supposed to last
until she reaches the age of 3.
Any delay in the urgently needed treatment will result in a life-long
disability for Sofia and make her dependent for the whole of her a... (more)

This Session will demonstrate why social networking is more than just
marketing buzz; it is a relational model that has been used for years to
define the way human beings interact, and it is the next step in the natural
evolution of the Web.
Learn how organizations can improve workflow and productivity by utilizing
social software and online collaboration. See how social networking can be
used to efficiently define and enable how work actually gets done on your
intranet. Discover how your intranet can become a dynamic corporate knowledge
base that will scale with the company as it grows and will still maintain
usability on it own. Understand why no single user, even the administrator,
can possibly identify all of the assets, users and groups and how they need
to be connected to each other for your intranet to be a truly collaborative
business tool. See how social n... (more)
With IBM taking major initiatives in the cloud computing arena this week, it
is timely that SYS-CON Events recently announced that IBM WebSphere Director
of Product Management Dr. Kareem Yusuf will be delivering a keynote on cloud
computing and Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) at the upcoming SOA World
Conference & Expo 2009 East (www.soaworld2009.com) June 22-23 in New York
City.

two objectives. The first is to ensure that cloud computing is fully
enterprise grade, meaning high performance, scalability, reliability,
availability, security and standards-based for portability and
interoperability. Second, we will support both public and private cloud
computing in order to give customers choice," says Richard Sarwal, SVP

Infrastructure 2.0 Session at Virtualization Expo
This week InformationWeek featured my recent infrastructure 2.0 interview
with Alexander Wolfe. As the infrastructure 2.0 Working Group is in stealth
mode, we focused on the high level tech issues resulting from the collision
between virtual and static (physical) infrastructure:
InformationWeek: Let's dive right in. Define the issue, as you see it.
Greg Ness: If you look at networks today, the way they're operated, run, and
configured hasn't really changed for the last several decades. There's a
contrast between today's networks and today's systems. The systems are
getting increasingly automated, while the networks are still very much in
silos. If I were to articulate this in one sentence, I'd say that today's
networks are run like yesterday's businesses.

Traditional file sharing protocols, such as Server Message Block ( SMB ) in
Windows Server 2012, are primarily designed for low-latency, high-bandwidth
scenarios commonly found in Local Area Networks ( LANs ). When attempting
to move file server workloads to the cloud, many IT Pros find that the
unpredictable latency and limited bandwidth related to most Internet
connections can make it challenging to deliver file services from the cloud
in a reliable manner.

In this article, I’ll step through a configuration that leverages the
BranchCache feature available in Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8
Enterprise. Once implemented, BranchCache can solve cloud networking
challenges by implementing a Wide Area File Services ( WAFS ) solution that
caches frequently accessed data locally, either in a Distributed Cache across
local clients or on a local Hosted Cac... (more)

Microservices Articles By Elizabeth White Using new techniques of information modeling, indexing, and processing, new cloud-based systems can support cloud-based workloads previously not possible for high-throughput insurance, banking, and case-based applications. In his session at 18th Cloud Expo, John Newton, CTO, Founder and Chairman of Alfresco, described how to scale cloud-based content management repositories to store, manage, and retrieve billions of documents and related information with fast and linear scalability.

The tools that you currently use to manage the software and hardware outside the cloud aren’t always the best tools to efficiently grow into the cloud. All of the major configuration management tools have cloud orchestration plugins that can be leveraged, but there are also cloud-native tools that can dramatically improve the efficiency of managing your application lifecycle.
In his session at 18th Cloud Expo, ... Jul. 3, 2018 10:45 PM EDT Reads: 9,978 | By Liz McMillan The now mainstream platform changes stemming from the first Internet boom brought many changes but didn’t really change the basic relationship between servers and the applications running on them. In fact, that was sort of the point.
In his session at 18th Cloud Expo, Gordon Haff, senior cloud strategy marketing and evangelism manager at Red Hat, will discuss how today’s workloads require a new model and a new platform for development and execution. The platform must handle a wide range of rec... Jul. 3, 2018 06:15 PM EDT Reads: 6,611 | By Pat Romanski Containers and Kubernetes allow for code portability across on-premise VMs, bare metal, or multiple cloud provider environments. Yet, despite this portability promise, developers may include configuration and application definitions that constrain or even eliminate application portability. In this session we'll describe best practices for "configuration as code" in a Kubernetes environment. We will demonstrate how a properly constructed containerized app can be deployed to both Amazon and Azure ...
