Living on the Edge: Immobile Data in a Mobile World
Providing secure, mobile access to sensitive data sets is a critical element
in realizing the full potential of cloud computing. However, large data
caches remain inaccessible to edge devices for reasons of security, size,
format or limited viewing capabilities. Medical imaging, computer aided
design and seismic interpretation are just a few examples of industries
facing this challenge. Rather than fighting for incremental gains by pulling
these datasets to edge devices, we need to embrace the immobile, heavy nature
of this data by providing new opportunities for high-performance access and
real-time collaboration.

applications are easily adapted to cloud-native, microservice-based, or
containerized architectures - they can be built for them - but old
applications need complex refactoring. On the other hand, these new
technologies can require relearning or adapting new, oftentimes more complex,
methodologies and tools to be ready for production.

Nero, the global multimedia software publisher, is previewing the new iOS app
for its NeroKwik mobile photo sharing service at CES in Las Vegas this week.
The latest version of the app now also connects photos stored on Dropbox and
Facebook. NeroKwik for iOS and Android devices will be demonstrated for media
and analysts at the ShowStoppers @ CES event tonight.
