In the run-up to the next Cloud Expo, 7th Cloud Expo (November 1–4, 2010)
being held at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Silicon Valley, it's time
to give my earlier list a complete overhaul.
Here, accordingly, is an expanded list of the most active players in the
Cloud Ecosystem.
I have increased it from the 'mere' 150 I identified back in January of this
year, to 250, testimony – as if any were needed! – to the fierce and
continuing growth of the "Elastic IT" paradigm throughout the world of
enterprise computing.
Editorial note: The words in quotation marks used to describe the various
services and solutions in this round-up are in every case taken from the Web
sites of the companies themselves. Omissions to this Top 250 list should be

Adobe said Wednesday that's it's not going to put any more money into
developing the Linux version of Flash Builder, once called Flex Builder,
because there's no money in it.
The move could be a harbinger of other companies re-evaluating their Linux
investments given the still nasty economic environment and the Linux
community's notorious proclivity for not being a revenue generator. Oracle,
for one, which sees software as a business it controls, recently pulled the
plug on OpenSolaris.

coordinated by IBM, has just announced the release of its cloud stack
featuring Claudia Service Manager (Telefonica’s tool for automatic
management of service scalability), OpenNebula Cloud Toolkit and security
services for cloud federation. The RESERVOIR Cloud Stack supports the
delivery of services on an on-demand basis, across countries, at competitive
costs and without requiring a large capital investment in infrastructure.

Mr. and Mrs. President Bashar al-Assad:
At the tender age of 17 months my severely ill daughter Sofia, an American
citizen, was abducted by her mother on Monday, July 26, in Istanbul, Turkey,
and taken to Syria.
I was informed yesterday by Sofia's mother that she will not be coming back
to the United States nor will she allow Sofia to return home.
Sofia has been diagnosed with a severe medical condition that requires

Oracle has managed to create a huge impact on San Francisco this week.
Reports suggest that not since a US president (we're not sure which one)
needed a little extra access in the city has a road been permanently closed
for the week – but the local police have done it for Larry Ellison so go
figure that one out!
Oracle has kicked off the first complete day of its Oracle OpenWorld and
JavaOne exhibition in San Francisco this week with a series of announcements
including news of new Oracle Fusion middleware applications.

Cloud Expo 2010 West total show floor space increased from 20,000 sq. ft. in 2009 to over 100,000 sq. ft. in 2010 including the expo floor.

We don't do press releases unless we have to; we tweet stories to our roughly 12,000 followers in 8 channels. The news gets amplified to hundreds of thousands instantly.
Even during Cloud Expo, we reach more people by Twitter than the announcements we make through loudspeakers in the convention centers.
I would love to contact the people who are conducting this survey and ask them if any company answered their first question as "don't really consider it."

CloudCamp @ Cloud Expo is aimed at anyone working with, or interested in working with, cloud technologies.

Cloud computing overlaps some of the concepts of distributed, grid and utility computing, however it does have its own meaning if contextually used correctly. The conceptual overlap is partly due to technology changes, usages and implementations over the years.
Trends in usage of the terms from Google searches shows Cloud Computing is a relatively new term introduced in the past year. There has also been a decline in general interest of Grid, Utility and Distributed computing.
Likely they will be around in usage for quit a while to come. But Cloud computing has become the new buzz word driven largely by marketing and service offerings from big corporate players like Google, IBM and Amazon.
