 Silicon features, otherwise known through the industry as blue crystals, have not been marketed by the largest desktop CPU manufacturer nearly as hard as clock speed has for many years. How was Intel able to get away with that? Why are they no longer able to simply sell newer chips on GHz alone any more? What are they going to do about it?  There, I said it: The "Microsoft of Sound". In case you weren't aware, that generally isn't seen as a positive comment. Let's see the similarities. Both are considered monopolies in their respective areas. Both use patents to scare off competitors, or just buy them out. Both have bloaty, buggy software. That's a lot in common. Too much. | The maximum core and memory overclock of the Gigabyte X800 Pro was 550MHz core and 1100MHz memory. This is an increase of 75MHz core and 200MHz memory over the 475/900 stock speed. But the card does not support hardware monitoring. The 6800 is the better performer for Halo and Far Cry while the X800 Pro takes the lead in NFSU. Discuss (0)

Here's something a recent conversation at the local Barnes and Nobles brought to mind: if you could use any OS with any hardware (in the home computing market), what would you use? MacOS on A64? Windows on PPC? Plan9 on StrongARM? (Ok, nix that last one.) More (3)
