SAP capped off an eventful week of IT-company reports, announcing revenues of
1.7 million euro (approx. $2.21 billion), and profits of 254 mllion euro
(approx. $330 million) for the quarter ending March 2005. The figures
expressed in euro were up 13 % and 12%, respectively, from a year ago. With
the U.S. dollar plunging like a stone against almost all world currencies
over the past year, these numbers representing dramatic increases when

http://www.nag.co.uk/numeric/FL/manual/xhtml/mark21.xml We have a lot of
content at Connexions with MathML embedded in faux XHTML. We say it's XHTML,
but it's not well-formed (e.g. empty elements without closing tags or
trailing forward-slashes; this problem is one that our development priorities
haven't permitted us to address). However, there's a good bit of Content
MathML in there as well, so our site might still be interesting to you. Some

Negotiated meaning: buy-in from some group informal or formal for documented
menanting and rights to change or approve changes to that agreement. Notice
the agreement and meaning are two different documents. Costs vary by
requirements. If it is a standard, there may be agency/consortia/organization
policies for how these decisions are made. If buy-in is not complete you get
the OOXML debacle (I won't say which side is the most debac-ed) but the
problem is the same. Topic maps provide a means to document agreements as
well as a system for implementing them in a readable navigable form. This
works well for human readers. RDF and the semantic web provide a means for
machines to check agreements and make inferences. A problem with solutions
that attempt to document the meaning for multiple communities is they may
have different syntactical requirements for documenting t... (more)

Rumor has it that Finnish social e-commerce startup Fruugo is burning through
a heap of cash, both hiring and firing employees at a rapid pace and dealing
with some disappointed potential customers. Caveat: the service hasn’t even
been launched yet.
Actually, Fruugo seems to have delayed its launch date a number of times
already, although at this point they’re likely going for a big push at the
upcoming SIME conference, arguably Northern Europe’s largest web event. The
company has been in stealth mode to date, and has been signing NDAs with just
about anyone they come into contact with. Being secretive and claiming that
they will ‘do for online shopping what Google has done for search’ has
evidently made Fruugo the talk of the town in Finland’s entrepreneurial
community, but it’s still unclear what they’re up to exactly.
It’s definitely a serious venture: they’re as... (more)

I knew someone would eventually nail the perfect service for updating
Twitter. That day has come, with the launch of Twoogie, where you can send
and view tweets in true Doogie Howser, M.D. style on an IBM PS/2 screen.
Just add your username behind the URL to view your Twitter stream the old
school way (e.g. TechCrunch). Note that for some reason - could be
intentional - it doesn’t always work straight way. To update, you’ll need
to log in with your Twitter credentials, so that’s entirely up to you.
Twoogie comes straight from Syndeomedia Labs, based in the Philippines and
Australia.
You can tell us how cool it is or how we write too much about Twitter related
stuff in 3, 2, 1 …

Two notes from Wall Street analysts came to my inbox today with top-ten
predictions for what 2009 holds in store for the technology industry. J.P.
Morgan’s Imran Khan, for instance, predicts Yahoo and Microsoft will
finally strike a search deal, video advertising on the Web isn’t working,
retail bankruptcies could actually help e-commerce companies, and that M&A;
activity will pick up in the second half of 2009 (but the IPO market will be
dead until 2010).
Barclays’ Doug Anmuth thinks that both Yahoo and eBay will make major
strategic moves this year to try to right their businesses, distribution wars
in search will break out between Google and Microsoft, and there will be
consolidation among the 300-plus ad networks out there. Both believe that
performance-based advertising will continue to rise in importance.
Rather than reproduce all 20 predictions from both anal... (more)

In fact we've already started recognizing / supporting a couple of these URIs

select between XML Schema 1.0 and 1.1 behaviour.
