Jim Cramer’s been doing a stint on CNBC in the middle of the trading day
and, being a Google booster, managed to entice Google’s usually standoffish
CEO Eric Schmidt on the air the other day.
Schmidt said Google’s stock wouldn’t split and that Google wouldn’t
start issuing guidance (it would distract Googlers from “trying to change
the world,” he said).
He also reckoned online advertising will ultimately be worth a trillion
dollars – when exactly is wholly unclear – maybe after Eric retires –
and that Google could make more money from mobile than from the desktop.
Mobile can be more targeted, he said.
He shrugged off Gmail’s collapse the other day as “just a screw-up” and
said that even if Google’s $1.6 billion YouTube acquisition turned into a
loss leader because Google couldn’t monetized it he was confident it could
be a feeder for Google.
Naturally, he defended... (more)
SCO CEO Darl McBride claims that the discovery that IBM has turned over so
far - the stuff that nobody outside the two companies has seen yet - is
proving out SCO's contention that IBM played fast and loose with SCO code,
which makes him wonder about the caliber of the smoking gun IBM's hiding in
the discovery it's trying to keep from SCO. That being said, we assume he's
taking his bodyguard with him to SCO Forum in Las Vegas next week.

Chris Matthieu during his WebRTC opening keynote at Internet of @ThingsExpo
Silicon Valley 2013, at the Santa Clara Convention Center, California.
There will be 50 billion Internet connected devices by 2020. Today, every
manufacturer has a propriety protocol and an app. How do we securely
integrate these "things" into our lives and businesses in a way that we can
easily control and manage? Even better, how do we integrate these "things" so
that they control and manage each other so our lives become more convenient
or our businesses become more profitable and/or safe?
We have heard that the best interface is no interface. In his session at
Internet of @ThingsExpo, Chris Matthieu, Co-Founder & CTO at Octoblu, Inc.,
will discuss how these devices generate enough data to learn our behaviors
and simplify/improve our lives. What if we could connect everything to
everythin... (more)
The Linux 2.6 kernel is expected to be released this summer, bringing not
only a huge improvement in performance but also big cost savings to the many
enterprises ready to migrate from Unix.
Already the subject of intense scrutiny, this new kernel will be the first
major revamp of the Linux kernel in two years. We at Open Source Development
Labs (OSDL) have worked with Linux developers and together completed more
than 4,000 tests on publicly available development versions of this kernel.
In recent months, we have run the development kernel, known as 2.5, in our
production environment with servers achieving more than 30 days of continuous
uptime. The 2.5 kernel will transition into 2.6, and OSDL is committed to its
rapid adoption in the market. (OSDL is a global consortium backed by Computer
Associates, Fujitsu, Hitachi, HP, IBM, Intel, NEC, and other major vendors.)

Advances in clustering technology have redefined the price-to-performance
curve for many High Performance Computing (HPC) application areas. The use of
specialized high-speed interconnects and fast commodity processors have
pushed the envelope to where it is today.
Not all applications need this level of hardware (and cost) to achieve
leading-edge price to performance. Indeed, there have been several
technological advances that may invite a step back from the traditional
edge-of-technology approach to HPC clustering. These advances include the
following developments:
Introduction of low-cost high-performance multi-core processors Introduction
of high-density motherboards and packaging solutions Introduction of
optimized Linux Gigabit Ethernet performance Of particular importance is the
fact that these advances are in the commodity sector where high demand and

AjaxWord (www.ajaxword.com) is an open source Web-based word processor. It
closely mimics Microsoft Word in both look-and-feel and functionality. The
application was initially written between 1997 and 1999 using
JavaScript/DHTML on the client side with ASP on the server side. It was
released on the Web in 2000. In 2005, the application's server-side logic was
migrated to Java and released as open source code.
On the client side, the application looks and feels like a typical desktop
application, e.g., Microsoft Word. The design features the kind of rich
graphical user interface that Microsoft Word users are familiar with, such as
hierarchical menus, toolbars, wizards, file dialogs, and a multiple document
interface (MDI). (Figure 1)
On the server side, the application is a typical Java-based Web application.
It features:

Blogger is a centralized free hosting service created by Evan Williams and
Meg Hourihan. It suffered from many of the same scaling issues in its early
days as Twitter, but now that Blogger has been owned by Google for a long
time, the scaling issues are gone. But it's not the only blogging service --
there are many others. And I can if I want, host my own blog on my own
server, using software like WordPress or Movable Type. I've written my own
software for Scripting News.
I use Twitter, but I also remember fondly the days when Twitter was smaller,
when I followed 50 people instead of 800. And I knew most of them. I still
like Twitter, but it's way different, and I see a role for a smaller
blog-sized Twitter, a companion to Scripting News, like Leo's TWiT Army. A
clubhouse where we work on stuff that's of interest mainly to this community,
where I follow 20 or 30 peo... (more)

Sep. 4, 2019 11:15 PM EDT | By Zakia Bouachraoui We all love the many benefits of natural plant oils, used as a deap treatment before shampooing, at home or at the beach, but is there an all-in-one solution for everyday intensive nutrition and modern styling?I am passionate about the benefits of natural extracts with tried-and-tested results, which I have used to develop my own brand (lemon for its acid ph, wheat germ for its fortifying action…).
