Microservers by some, ARM Servers by others, and sometimes even ARM-based
Servers. No matter what you call them, Microservers will have a huge impact
on the data center and on server computing in general.
What Is a Microserver...and What Isn't
Although few people are familiar with Microservers today, their impact will
be felt very soon. This is a new category of computing platform that is
available today and is predicted to have triple-digit growth rates for some

(LinuxWorld) -- We examine two different scenarios in an attempt to find when
it's smarter to choose Unix or Windows.
In scenario 1, a college administrator chooses Unix or Windows for a
500-student system.
In scenario 2, the board of a 5,000-user manufacturing company looks at that
same decision.
Under each scenario, we examine some of the direct and indirect consequences
of the decision. We consider, for example, the impact the college's decision
has on parental support costs for students as well as the more obvious costs
to the college. At the manufacturing company, we look at costs, productivity,
and visit the board's decision on the CIO's role.

Static data structures have been at the heart of data processing tools since
the dawn of computing, but they have always limited the flexibility of the
organization leveraging the data. Recently, the rise of flexible formats like
JSON have led to schemaless data as an attempt to increase agility. However,
schemaless data have proven difficult to work with, because of hidden rigid
structure in the form of implied schemas.
