Ten Tips on How to Maximize Your @CloudExpo and @ThingsExpo Sponsorship
Benefits
@CloudEXPO and @ExpoDX, two of the most influential technology events in the
world, have hosted hundreds of sponsors and exhibitors since our launch 10
years ago.
In this blog post, I provide 10 tips on how our sponsors and exhibitors can
maximize their participation at our events. But before reading my top 10 tips
for our sponsors and exhibitors, please take a moment and watch this brief
Sandy Carter video.
"Cloud Expo was really the event to connect with thought leaders, innovators,
business folks who are interested in what the cloud can bring to their
business. You know really how it allows them to bring the transformation of
the business process."... (more)

When you visit Newsweek.com, the words you read started their journey
milliseconds earlier from an Amazon.com datacenter somewhere in northern
Virginia. And if you visited Wikileaks.org earlier this week, the bytes
comprising leaked U.S. embassy cables would have traveled a similar path from
Amazon servers based in northern California or Ireland.
While WikiLeaks and Newsweek are very different organizations, we both relied
on the 21st century equivalent of the printing press – cloud computing –
to distribute our information. Amazon shut off WikiLeaks servers Wednesday,
citing the company’s violation of Amazon rules, coincidentally at the same
time government officials called for similar action... (more)
"New infrastructure and operations technologies such as cloud services and
virtualization ... were selected by CIOs the most often and are the top-two
technologies for 2011," said Mark McDonald, group vice president and head of
research for Gartner Executive Programs, as the results were announced of the
2011 CIO Agenda survey by Gartner Executive Programs (EXP).
"CIOs and IT have been boxed in between modest budget growth and growing
legacy requirements," McDonald continued, noting that "Cloud services and
virtualization are well-suited for this budget reality, as they offer similar
service levels at lower budget costs."
The worldwide CIO survey was conducted by Gartner EXP from September to
December 2010 and represents CIO budget plans reported at that time.
According to the results, CIOs expect to adopt new cloud services much faster
than originally expected. Cur... (more)
I have been asked to moderate a cloud computing discussion at Green Gov 2012.
The title of the session is “Cloud Computing: The Next Generation of
Computing and Sustainable IT”. It is a great honor to be selected to
participate as moderator. I believe this is my second go around. As National
Director of Cloud Services with Core BTS, Inc. it is my job to articulate the
value of cloud computing. I have been pondering the title a bit and for me to
actually discuss the next generation of Cloud, we have to identify the
current situation. The cloud has gone way beyond Google Mail and SalesForce
(CRM), into other areas like Cloud Security, Cloud Storage, and Cloud Back
Up. Furthermore, we actually must define our idea of cloud computing and
sustainable IT. Not everyone is on the same page.
What Is Cloud Computing?

At press time, the SCO Group expected that by Monday, January 12, it would
turn over to IBM all the evidence it had of Linux' alleged infringement on
SCO-owned Unix IP that IBM asked for in its motion to compel discovery last
month, thereby meeting its court-imposed 30-day deadline, according to SCO
spokesman Blake Stowell.
Provided IBM is satisfied with what SCO turns over, SCO expects to be back in
court on Friday January 23 pursuing its own motion to compel IBM to turn over
its AIX Unix source code to SCO. IBM previously turned over to SCO the Dynix
UNIX source code that it acquired when it bought Sequent. SCO claims Linux
got many of its high-end skills like SMP from the Sequent code.
SCO, which has a $3 billion breach-of-contract suit lodged against IBM,
continues to maintain that having to spell out its case against Linux is an
idle exercise because IBM knows d... (more)
SGI says it's inventing the Next Big Thing.
SGI has invented the Next Big Thing before like its SMP and NUMA work.
Anyway, it's not enough that the next-generation supercomputer be bigger and
faster, according to Greg Estes, the head of SGI's corporate marketing, and
Dave Parry, the general manager of its server/HPC business unit. The hardware
and software has simply got to be more useable.
SGI calls its vision Project Ultraviolet because purple is its favorite color
and it seems to make some kind of futuristic sense because ultraviolet is
just beyond the violet hue in the visible spectrum.
SGI says it's going to give the world multi-paradigm computing, a model that
it predicts will ultimately be copied by rivals like IBM.
It makes no sense, SGI says, to make users commit to an architecture they may
have to live with for 10 years that isn't the optimal solution for all... (more)
A piece of juicy compromising e-mail written by a SCO consultant to SCOsource
VP Chris Sontag and SCO CFO Bob Bench last October suggesting that Microsoft
had quietly funneled $86 million to SCO and that it was good for at least
$106 million before tapping all possibilities happened to turn up on open
source philosopher Eric Raymond's web site Thursday.
Eric made it part of his Microsoft-embarrassing internal documents collection
and dubbed it Halloween X. (See www.opensource.org.)
He says he got it from an "anonymous whistleblower inside SCO," which is odd
because, given the timing and other little niceties, one would be tempted to
think that it was a bit of SCO discovery that somehow got loose from IBM. Oh,
yeah, Eric is a sometime consultant for IBM and his anti-SCO credentials are
impeccable.
Right at the top of the kinda disjointed e-mail the consultant, one Mik... (more)
Jonathan Schwartz, Sun's new president and latest loose cannon, a volume kind
of guy, said at a press conference in Shanghai the other day at a SunNetwork
Conference, that Sun was going to open source Solaris.
"I don't want to say when that will happen," Sun acknowledges he said, "but
make no mistake, we will open source Solaris."
According to the clip morgue here, Sun has been kicking the idea around since
late 1998, but that doesn't mean the notion had reached any kind of, um,
maturity before Jonathan opened his mouth.
Being president, however, evidently makes any whim one may have turn into an
instance corporate initiative and Sun, while recovering its composure, now
says that it is open source-bound. Other than that, Sun wasn't prepared to
answer any other questions.
See, none of the key issues have been resolved. Little things like, um,
whether Solaris can legal... (more)
Computer Associates claimed it's not one of those ISVs that limped out of
calendar Q2 like Siebel, whose earnings fell 16% because sales suddenly
dropped at the end of quarter, clipping revenues almost 10%.
Still CA had cut its June revenue projections by $35 million a couple of
weeks ago and yesterday it pulled in its prospects for the next nine months
less, it said, because of the "conservative spending environment" that
demands a quick ROI than its disappointing services operation and the renewal
level in its subscription mix.
It said it would do $3.4 billion-$3.5 billion in fiscal '05 ending in March
rather than $3.5 billion-$3.7 billion and realize only 25 cents-30 cents, not
28 cents-33 cents. It called the original estimates "too optimistic."
CA posted its June first quarter on Thursday and said revenues were up 9%
year-over-year to $860 million, beating its r... (more)
While it was busy launching its new Niagara-based servers in New York
Tuesday, Sun Microsystems said it would open source the UltraSparc T1
processor that was code named Niagara. It's calling the project OpenSparc.
At this point it's more a statement of intent than a fait accompli. The
program isn't supposed to kick off until late in the first quarter after Sun
addresses key issues such as implementation and governance.
Back in 1999 Sun released its complete MicroSparc IIep design for free under
the Community Source License, also used for Java to try to make its chip
designs more popular. Companies that used and sold the embedded chip were
supposed to pay Sun 3% of the average selling price by way of royalty but
would have saved hundreds of thousands in licensing fees.
Again Sun it apparently hopeful of triggering a few derivatives. It claims
the idea behind OpenSparc i... (more)

Sep. 4, 2019 11:15 PM EDT | By Zakia Bouachraoui We all love the many benefits of natural plant oils, used as a deap treatment before shampooing, at home or at the beach, but is there an all-in-one solution for everyday intensive nutrition and modern styling?I am passionate about the benefits of natural extracts with tried-and-tested results, which I have used to develop my own brand (lemon for its acid ph, wheat germ for its fortifying action…).
