Cloud computing has reduced deployment times and the ability to try out new
ideas without significant investments in hardware and software. Cloud
supports business agility and Cloud projects may have a quicker turnaround
time for releases. Many programs have declared victory as being Agile since
they are using the rapid deployment capabilities of Cloud and Big Data. The
myth is "I use Cloud" hence I'm Agile". However this is only the business
agility aspect in terms of using the "pay as you go" model of Cloud to have
quicker provisioning and deployments. Agile management and development is a
focus on Agile techniques throughout the development lifecycle. On some
projects, in an attempt to get products out using Cloud, Big Data Business
Intelligence tools quickly, the magnificent capabilities of Agile management
and development have been forgotten. Agile processes do... (more)
After reading an interview with Richard Stallman published by The Guardian,
Cuba's Raul Castro said "Cloud Computing is for capitalist pigs."
Castro continued: "In Cuba we provide free health care, free food coupons,
free housing and if we had any computers on the island, we would provide free
laptops and Internet too. So, I agree with Richard Stallman that Amazon, IBM,
Microsoft, and all American companies pushing this new Cloud Computing
concept are among the axis of evil who want to hook you like Coca-Cola and
McDonald's. Why would you pay Amazon for their cloud computing service, if
you can hassle them to give it to you for free? Americans should join the
Cuban revolution and make hardware, software, including cloud computing,
free. By doing this, the government can hand out laptop coupons in
supermarkets next to the bread aisle. Think about it!"
In an interview... (more)
The Planet, the global leader in IT hosting, today announced that Rob
Walters, director of product management, will participate in a panel
discussion at the Cloud Computing Conference & Expo in Santa Clara, Calif.
The panel—titled “Enterprise-Level Cloud Computing: Far-Off Dream or
Present Reality?”—will discuss the new economic models enabled by cloud
computing, and whether service operators should consider moving to the cloud.
The session is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 3, at 7:25 p.m. PDT.
“‘The cloud’ is a buzzworthy topic today, but there’s also confusion
in the marketplace as to its capabilities and viability as a platform for
data,” said Walters. “Along with other industry leaders, we’ll shed
light on its utility, discuss where this new technology is headed, and its
potential to transform the IT industry.”
Joining Walters on the panel is Willie M. Tejada of ... (more)
Assuming that your organization is well down the road when it comes to
adopting the Cloud and in fact, has been utilizing the Cloud for a while,
then you are likely a true believer that ultimately all of your applications
will be migrated to the Cloud. It is no longer a question of "if" but more a
question of "when" and "how." These days, the majority of test, dev,
external websites and mobile apps are already born in the cloud.
Applications make businesses run. Businesses have tons of applications
ranging from purchased (commercial off the shelf) to homegrown (bespoke) and
likely some customized, purchased apps that now look a lot like the homegrown
ones. One of the big problems with apps is that once they are built and
deployed they rarely get replaced or decommissioned. Application sprawl
and aging application portfolios are among the root causes for much of th... (more)

Intel is backing a start-up, 3Leaf, that depends on AMD technology to do
what's it's doing. Intel led the stealth outfit's $20 million B round last
September, bringing total investment to $32.5 million.
3Leaf, which just broke cover with a box called the V-8000, fancies itself
challenging Egenera, according to CEO Bob Quinn. He calls 3Leaf "the Egenera
of commodity products," and he's gonna have ex-Egenera people peddling the
box. Savvis, Egenera's largest customer, has been a beta site. The V-8000, a
stage one product, is a 2U virtual I/O server, which explains the "V" in its
name and why 3Leaf is thinking Egenera, which wrote the book on
virtualization.
The appliance, so to speak, is built around two dual-core AMD Opterons. 3Leaf
exploits AMD's virtualization properties and licensed its HyperTransport
technology. Heck, Quinn claims to have given AMD the idea for it... (more)
Virtual PC Guy's WebLog
Well, I just realized that I had dived into talking about how to do things
with Hyper-V without first taking the time to orient you on some of the
terminology used. So I would now take the time to correct that. Note that
many of these terms are not used in the user interface / documentation for
Hyper-V. The reason for this is that from an operational 'getting things
done' point of view you do not need to know about most of this. However, once
you start discussing architecture it becomes necessary to know about this
stuff.
However, once you start discussing architecture it becomes necessary to know
about this stuff:Hypervisor
The hypervisor is to Hyper-V what the kernel is to Windows. The hypervisor
is not all of Hyper-V, it is just the lowest level component that is
responsible for interaction with core hardware. The hypervisor is
responsib... (more)
As virtualization becomes more widely deployed, and enterprises look for new
ways to leverage this revolutionary technology, the consumption and delivery
of this technology is changing. It is no longer one-size-fits-all and
confined to a specific area of the data center, but instead is proliferating
within the data center and out to the user via the desktop and applications.
This session will provide IT organizations with a short- and long-term
roadmap by focusing on the new delivery models for virtualization (including
embedded hypervisors and managed services), what's available today and what
can be expected in the future, and best practices for deployment.
