After Google’s Android announcement , at least four big guys should be irritated:Sun Microsystems, Apple, Adobe and Microsoft. Google approaches telephony from the open source side – Linux-based platform uses Java but does not care about sticking to Java ME – they are planning to use fast OpenGL libraries and are not afraid to be hardware-specific.  Check out the Youtube videos at the android site. Performance-wise that device looks pretty impressive.  Google has created an alliance of more than thirty parties – phone manufacturers and service providers.  Google knows how to do things right. Obviously,  Android is a direct outside threat to Java ME, which makes it two now. The first one is Sun’s own JavaFX which should become a commercial product for creating visual telephony applications around the same time when Android will be officially released – next Fall. T... Cloud Computing Expo - Google Chrome & Browser War III

With Chrome, Google gets to scare the bejesus out of Microsoft by revitalizing Netscape’s old browser-as-platform threat and keep Firefox around as a fallback position in case Chrome doesn’t catch on or is slow in catching on, all the while maintaining the goodwill of the “community.” Firefox currently holds ~18% of the market to Microsoft’s ~75%. Google has come out from behind the Firefox browser that it's been pumping money into - and profiting royally from - to take direct aim at Microsoft with a browser of its very own. The widgetry is called Google Chrome and Google Chrome, like all of Google's non-search widgetry, is a beta. Presumably that means it's going to be like Google's apps and be interminably in beta since Google's own blog says the timing is "a bit early," well, at least a day earlier than intended as a result of a hair-trigger mailroom that on Mo... The Top 250 Players in the Cloud Computing Ecosystem

In the run-up to the next Cloud Expo, 7th Cloud Expo (November 1–4, 2010) being held at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Silicon Valley, it's time to give my earlier list a complete overhaul. Here, accordingly, is an expanded list of the most active players in the Cloud Ecosystem. Editorial note: The words in quotation marks used to describe the various services and solutions in this round-up are in every case taken from the Web sites of the companies themselves. I am always being told off by i-technologists for quoting Picasso as having said that computers are useless. But I still love his reasoning? "Because they can only give you answers." Picasso, like AJAXWorld Magazine, liked questions. So we thought we would share with you what some of the world's leading rich Internet application pioneers are thinking may be the next questions that we need to see answered. From that readers can themselves infer where AJAX is headed. What are the top questions to ask next about AJAX? Eric Miraglia of Yahoo! 1.  (From March'08) How do I calculate the ROI of building my RIA on the iPhone SDK vs using AJAX? 2.  How do I assess the performance of my app and decide what to do next to make it faster?  3.  When it comes to accessibility, how do I know what's required of me for my rich web apps?  Beyond what's required, what makes good business se...
