Data Management for the Cloud Era
As data explodes in quantity, importance and from new sources, the need for
managing and protecting data residing across physical, virtual, and cloud
environments grow with it. Managing data includes protecting it, indexing and
classifying it for true, long-term management, compliance and E-Discovery.
Commvault can ensure this with a single pane of glass solution - whether in a
private cloud, a Service Provider delivered public cloud or a hybrid cloud
environment - across the heterogeneous enterprise.

At CloudEXPO Silicon Valley, June 24-26, 2019, Digital Transformation (DX) is
a major focus with expanded DevOpsSUMMIT and FinTechEXPO programs within the
DXWorldEXPO agenda. Successful transformation requires a laser focus on being
data-driven and on using all the tools available that enable transformation
if they plan to survive over the long term. A total of 88% of Fortune 500
companies from a generation ago are now out of business. Only 12% still
survive. Similar percentages are found throughout enterprises of all sizes.

"People are a lot more knowledgeable about APIs now. There are two types of
people who work with APIs - IT people who want to use APIs for something
internal and the product managers who want to do something outside APIs for
people to connect to them," explained Roberto Medrano, Executive Vice
President at SOA Software, in this SYS-CON.tv interview at 15th Cloud Expo,
held Nov 4-6, 2014, at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, CA.
Internet of Things, Data and APIs
When something as simple as an API can integrate massive amounts of data
into, and through, a wide variety of applications, any company can be a
digital enterprise. There is a perception that some industries are using
technology to innovate, while others languish in antiquated ways of running
their business. But in our massively connected age, it's rare to find
examples where technology isn't... (more)
Conjecture, an opinion or conclusion formed on the basis of incomplete
information
All digital transformation initiatives introduce new problems, software bugs,
guaranteed network vulnerabilities, new competitors; new business challenges
and new stresses. The elimination of all negative consequences and
vulnerabilities are impossible, so our focus should be on limiting and
containing it, not eliminating it.
Digital transformation is all about replacing conjecture. Replacing
conjecture with a more complete picture by networking systems and
applications together, deploying sensors, connecting fleets with telematics,
mobilizing workforces, collecting online data in real-time, employing
omnichannel strategies and analyzing and managing it all with an OILS
(optimized information logistics systems) in real-time.
In the past most enterprises operated on a conjecture or e... (more)
Digital Transformation: Not Because It's Easy, But Because It's Hard
Guest post by Intellyx Principal Analyst Charles Araujo
Pop quiz: What's the first thing you should do after you've completed your
digital transformation?
If you've followed our work here at Intellyx, you know this was a trick
question.
Digital transformation is a process, not a destination. It's a fundamental
reshaping of an organization's culture that reorients it around the customer
experience, business value and constant change.
It's not about executing a ‘digital transformation project' and finding a
new normal. The essence of digital transformation is the destruction of the
static state.
This essence is a challenging concept to grasp, ironically, because while we
talk about digital transformation, we do it through an industrial era filter.
It's difficult to imagine a change of state this fund... (more)
Social tools, big data and business networks are reshaping e-commerce in such
a way that buyers and sellers are linking up in ways not possible even a few
years ago.
In one example, Ohio-based LLT Barcode & Label, has found powerful new ways
to develop sales and leads inexpensively using Ariba Discovery to better
connect with qualified new customers.
To learn how, BriefingsDirect recently sat down with Rachel Spasser, Senior
Vice President of Marketing at Ariba, an SAP Company, and Kris Hart, the
Account Manager at LLT Barcode & Label in Stow, Ohio. The moderator is Dana
Gardner, Principal Analyst at Interarbor Solutions. [Disclosure: Ariba is a
sponsor of BriefingsDirect podcasts.]
Here are some excerpts:

cloud, using the networked economy and how people are linked up now

The question of who owns the data is partly determined by the kind of cloud
infrastructure that is in place for your business.
The advantages that cloud based hosting brings needs to reiteration. Cloud
hosting is infinitely scalable, needs radically lower CapEx and with
distributed hosting, it is much more fail-proof than data hosted on your
premise. But the recent legal spar between Apple and the US government has
brought the limelight once again back on the debate about ownership of data.
In the case of Apple, the fight is over decrypting the iPhone used by a
criminal in order for the government to hack in. But the case may as well be
between law enforcement and a web host over data stored by your customers on
your startup service.
In such a case, who owns the data? Before we discuss this, it is important to
identify the various kinds of cloud hosting services pre... (more)
3M and Korea-based ECOPRO have entered into a patent license agreement that
aims at further expanding the use of Nickel-Manganese-Cobalt (NMC) cathode
materials in lithium ion batteries. Under the agreement, 3M grants a license
to US6964828, US7078128, US8241791 and all global equivalents.
The cathode compositions composed of Nickel, Manganese and Cobalt offer an
outstanding balance of power, energy, thermal stability and low cost. NMC
cathode materials can be tailored through changes in composition and
morphology to meet a wide range of demanding customer requirements from high
energy handheld consumer electronics to high power (hybrid) electric
vehicles. For large format battery applications, the excellent thermal
stability of NMC cathode compositions contributes to an improved battery
safety performance and can contribute to lower total battery system costs.
