A robust ecosystem of solutions providers is emerging around cloud computing.
Here, SYS-CON's Cloud Computing Journal expands its list of most active
players in the fast-emerging Cloud Ecosystem, from the 'mere' 100 we
identified back in January of this year, to half as many again - testimony,
if any further were needed, to the fierce and continuing growth of the
"Elastic IT" paradigm throughout the world of enterprise computing.
Editorial note: The words in quotation marks used to describe the various
services and solutions in this round-up are in every case taken from the Web
sites cited. As ever we encourage software engineers, developers, IT
operations managers, and new/growing companies in every case to "suck it and
see" by downloading or otherwise sampling the offering in question for
themselves.

There is considerable attention being paid to service oriented architectures
(SOA) and their promise of leveraging new and existing application components
– services – in composite applications that may span multiple
business units within an organization. While the construction, or enablement,
of these services is well defined, what is often left as an assumption is
that once deployed, the service will simply be available. The reality is that
if consideration is not given to the reliability, availability and
recoverability of your services, then you may find yourself leaping from the
frying pan and into the fire.
This presentation will discuss the use of service virtualization and grid
technology to enable service execution. Using existing grid technologies,
organizations can achieve guaranteed, horizontal scaling of service execution
across the entire c... (more)

Noting that the healthcare industry is one of the most risk-averse areas in
the known universe when it comes to IT, HP is nevertheless promoting its
FlexFabric switching architecture to the industry, as a way to reduce costs
through server consolidation.
The ever-cautious nature of healthcare management is a product of a focus on
minimizing mistakes (to avoid lawsuits and regulatory fines) and frankly,
built-in profit margins. But as, finally, finally, after more than two
decades of effort ever more data and images are being stored online, the
amount of data is getting too big to handle with multiple, proprietary
datacenter infrastructures.
Add increasing use of wireless to the mix, something that requires separate
deployment within the typically siloed healthcare IT infrastructure, and the
need to consolidate appears to be outweighing the need to be

OpenNebula has been designed to be easily adapted to any infrastructure and
easily extended with new components. The result is a modular system that
can implement a variety of Cloud architectures and can interface with
multiple datacenter services. In the new white paper OpenNebula APIs, C12G
reviews the main interfaces of OpenNebula, their use and gives pointers to
additional documentation for each one. Interfaces are classified in two
categories: end-user cloud and system interfaces. Cloud interfaces are
primary used to develop tools targeted to the end-user, and they provide a
high level abstraction of the functionality provided by the Cloud. On the
other hand, the system interfaces expose the full functionality of OpenNebula
and are mainly used to adapt and tune the behavior of OpenNebula to the
target infrastructure.

HP announced a $120 million datacenter in Australia, to be completed in the
Western Sydney area (30-40 miles west of Sydney's central business district)
this year. In making the announcement, the company noted that Australia's
National Broadband Network (NBN) initiative was "the incentive," according to
the country's Communications Minister, Stephen Conroy. "(The NBN) is the
reason for corporations to look to Australia and our ICT sector."
The NBN promises to deliver gigabit service to more than 90% of the country
as it is rolled out over the next few years.
Good on ya, mate. Australia has been notable for its over-reliance on raw
materials exports for decades. Although the country enjoys an overall wealth
in the top tier of the world's nations, it has long been seen as an IT
laggard.
Overall IT spend in Australia represents less than 5% of its overall economy;

CloudEXPO Stories By Liz McMillan Is advanced scheduling in Kubernetes achievable?Yes, however, how do you properly accommodate every real-life scenario that a Kubernetes user might encounter? How do you leverage advanced scheduling techniques to shape and describe each scenario in easy-to-use rules and configurations? In his session at @DevOpsSummit at 21st Cloud Expo, Oleg Chunikhin, CTO at Kublr, answered these questions and demonstrated techniques for implementing advanced scheduling. For example, using spot instances and cost-effective resources on AWS, coupled with the ability to deliver a minimum set of functionalities that cover the majority of needs – without configuration complexity. Mar. 21, 2019 04:15 AM EDT Reads: 4,644 | By Elizabeth White Today we can collect lots and lots of performance data. We build beautiful dashboards and even have fancy query languages to access and transform the data. Still performance data is a secret language only a couple of people understand. The more business becomes digital the more stakeholders are interested in this data including how it relates to business. Some of these people have never used a monitoring tool before. They have a question on their mind like "How is my application doing" but no idea how to get a proper answer. Mar. 21, 2019 04:00 AM EDT | By Liz McMillan The term "digital transformation" (DX) is being used by everyone for just about any company initiative that involves technology, the web, ecommerce, software, or even customer experience. While the term has certainly turned into a buzzword with a lot of hype, the transition to a more connected, digital world is real and comes with real challenges.
In his opening keynote, Four Essentials To Become DX Hero Status Now, Jonathan Hoppe, Co-Founder and CTO of Total Uptime Technologies, shared that beyond the hype, digital transformation initiatives are infusing IT budgets with critical investment for technology. This is shifting the IT organization from a cost center/center of efficiency to one that is strategic for revenue growth. CIOs are working with the new reality of cloud, mobile-first, and digital initiatives across all areas of their businesses. What's more, top IT talent wants to w...
