This will be the last [at least for a while] post in the SOA Security Series, and I want to conclude by sharing my vision and some recommendations and best practices (most of them fairly common sense) that I have noticed, stole and otherwise accumulated while working in this field. But before we start, I would like to fill the gap that I left in my earlier postings by never providing a Definition of Secure SOA Secure SOA is an approach to implement SOA which by design ensures trust throughout the SOA ecosystem (including services, consumers, composite applications and infrastructure) by addressing some or all of the following security aspects: Authentication Authorization Integrity Confidentiality Accountability (monitoring, logging, audit, non-repudiation) Identity (federation, provisioning, trust brokering) Security Policies It is also worth mentioning that I firm... Editorial note: The words in quotation marks used to describe the various services and solutions in this round-up are in every case taken from the Web sites of the companies themselves. Omissions to this Top 250 list should be sent to me via Twitter (twitter.com/jg21) and I will endeavor to include them in any future revision of this newly expanded rou... (more)

Serverless applications increase developer productivity and time to market, by freeing engineers from spending time on infrastructure provisioning, configuration and management. Serverless also simplifies Operations and reduces cost - as the Kubernetes container infrastructure required to run these applications is automatically spun up and scaled precisely with the workload, to optimally handle all runtime requests. Recent advances in open source technology now allow organizations to run Serverless and Kubernetes reliably, at scale, also on on-premises and private cloud infrastructure. The ability to achieve the benefits of Serverless on existing infrastructure - and not having to rely solely on public clouds - has greatly increased the adoption of Serverless across industries, including financial services, IoT, retail, healthcare, and more. Serverless offers an incredible opportun...
The benefits of automated cloud deployments for speed, reliability and security are undeniable. The cornerstone of this approach, immutable deployment, promotes the idea of continuously rolling safe, stable images instead of trying to keep up with managing a fixed pool of virtual or physical machines. In this talk, we'll explore the immutable infrastructure pattern and how to use continuous deployment and continuous integration (CI/CD) process to build and manage server images for any platform. Then we'll show how automate deploying these images quickly and reliability with open DevOps tools like Terraform and Digital Rebar. Not only is this approach fast, it's also more secure and robust for operators.
Containers and Kubernetes allow for code portability across on-premise VMs, bare metal, or multiple cloud provider environments. Yet, despite this portability promise, developers may include configuration and application definitions that constrain or even eliminate application portability. In this session we'll describe best practices for "configuration as code" in a Kubernetes environment. We will demonstrate how a properly constructed containerized app can be deployed to both Amazon and Azure using the Kublr platform, and how Kubernetes objects, such as persistent volumes, ingress rules, and services, can be used to abstract from the infrastructure.
