Today it is exactly two years since the weirdest Valentine's Day I have ever
experienced, or indeed hope ever to experience again.
February 14, 2011, in short, is etched into my diary and my brain as the day
when I was diagnosed – out of the blue – with pancreatic cancer.
They say one should always be grateful for what one has. Accordingly, the
appropriate emotion ought perhaps to have been a feeling that I was
incredibly and wonderfully lucky, because I was not dead. After all, St.
Valentine died on the the 14th of February, on the Via Flaminia in the north
of Rome. Hence Valentine's Day. Whereas there was I, alive and well, being
told by a doctor in Sarajevo's famous Koševo Hospital – a huge complex of
buildings on a hill in north Sarajevo – that a malignant tumor on the head
of my pancreas was what had caused me to turn, from head to toe, yellow.

TEMECULA, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 03/09/12 -- Southern California Telephone &
Energy (SCT&E;) has completed an energy renovation project throughout their
entire building at its headquarters located in Temecula, California. At the
First Extraordinary Session SB 2X (2011), Investor Owned Utilities were
directed to reach 33 percent renewable energy generation by 2020. In response
to the California law, SCT&E; proposes "behind-the-meter" solutions to
everyday modes of operation.
Across the roof, SCT&E; spread a thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) membrane to

CloudEXPO Stories By Pat Romanski; Liz McMillan The past few years have brought a sea change in the way applications are architected, developed, and consumed-increasing both the complexity of testing and the business impact of software failures.
How can software testing professionals keep pace with modern application delivery, given the trends that impact both architectures (cloud, microservices, and APIs) and processes (DevOps, agile, and continuous delivery)? This is where continuous testing comes in.
Attend this session to discover why and how continuous testing is different from traditional test automation. Jan. 28, 2019 10:45 AM EST | By Carmen Gonzalez Cloud, containers, and their second cousin, DevOps, are disrupting the data center. Not just because applications are leaving, but because of the demands and expectations of dev and ops on IT. Modernization - not just migration - is critical for the data center to add value to the business. This session will explore these demands and expectations and provide both architectural and operational guidance to making the changes necessary to maintain relevance in a cloudy, containerized, and DevOps-driven world. If you're good with that, let's run with it. Jan. 28, 2019 10:30 AM EST | By Yeshim Deniz Artificial intelligence is positively affecting our world in previously unimaginable ways across many different industries. The use of AI is particularly interesting in the cybersecurity industry because of its unique ability to scale and prevent previously unseen zero-day attacks and for automating complicated analysis and processes at machine speed. But just in the way drug cartels built their own submarines and cellphone towers to evade law enforcement, so too will cyber-criminals build their own AI systems to carry out malicious attacks.
AI is a force for good and has demonstrated great success thus far in security applications; but AI can also be used for evil. Malcolm Harkins, Chief Security and Trust Officer at Cylance, will cover the basics of AI technology, how AI is currently being used for evil and suggested ways to combat AI attacks. Jan. 28, 2019 09:45 AM EST | By Yeshim Deniz The benefits of automated cloud deployments for speed, reliability and security are undeniable. The cornerstone of this approach, immutable deployment, promotes the idea of continuously rolling safe, stable images instead of trying to keep up with managing a fixed pool of virtual or physical machines. In this talk, we'll explore the immutable infrastructure pattern and how to use continuous deployment and continuous integration (CI/CD) process to build and manage server images for any platform. Then we'll show how automate deploying these images quickly and reliability with open DevOps tools like Terraform and Digital Rebar. Not only is this approach fast, it's also more secure and robust for operators. Jan. 28, 2019 09:45 AM EST | By Liz McMillan Organizations are always trying to evolve to meet customer demands and get ahead of their competition. Just recently organizations started moving secure applications and workloads to the public cloud. In this presentation, we will focus on one enterprises' journey to the public cloud. How we built and secured our very large and scalable public cloud environment, and the cutting edge tools used. As organizations migrate to the public cloud to meet business requirements, security and compliance are an afterthought. This causes massive pains when audit time comes around. What organizations need is a new approach. In this presentation, we will focus on the best practices for implementation, whether it be open source or commercial. Jan. 28, 2019 09:30 AM EST |
