I am always being told off by i-technologists for quoting Picasso as having
said that computers are useless. But I still love his reasoning? "Because
they can only give you answers."
Picasso, like AJAXWorld Magazine, liked questions. So we thought we would
share with you what some of the world's leading rich Internet application
pioneers are thinking may be the next questions that we need to see answered.
From that readers can themselves infer where AJAX is headed.

In ASP.NET 2.0, we introduced a very powerful set of application services in
ASP.NET (Membership, Roles and profile). In 3.5 we created a client library
for accessing them from Ajax and .NET Clients and exposed them via WCF web
services. For more information on the base level ASP.NET appservices
that this walk through is based on, please see Stefan Schackow's excellent
book Professional ASP.NET 2.0 Security, Membership, and Role Management.
In this tutorial I will walk you through how to access the WCF application
services from a directly from the Silverlight client. This works super well
if you have a site that is already using the ASP.NET application services and
you just need to access them from a Silverlight client. (Special thanks
to Helen for a good chunk of this implantation)

"The economy might be cooling down, but the RIA market is definitely heating
up," declared Sun's CEO Jonathan Schwartz recently in his widely-read
industry blog. Schwartz was writing as Sun shipped its 100,000,000th JavaFX
runtime - a download rate that makes it the fastest growing RIA platform on
the market and demonstrating the fastest adoption of any product Sun has ever
shipped.
"What you can do with Flash is comparable to Silverlight, and again
comparable to JavaFX," Schwartz noted, adding:
"That said, must you use JavaFX or Flash or Silverlight to be a part of the
rich internet future? Well, no - Apple used Objective-C for the iPhone, after
all, completely discrediting the purist notion that if the app isn't written
with a web scripting language, it isn't fashion forward."
Schwartz underlined the happy fact that the 100,000,000 milestone was reached
just in tim... (more)
Come see a no-slides, code-only presentation that starts with a blank
directory and builds a data-driven, AJAX enabled, ASP.NET web application
from scratch that implements common AJAX patterns with the rich set of AJAX
Control Toolkit, accesses data with LINQ, and implements standards-based
styling and layout using CSS and clean HTML. Learn the new features of
ASP.NET 3.5 and Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 and how they integrate together
to provide the world's most productive web development experience. This talk
uses the 100% free .NET Framework and Visual Studio tools and the resulting
application will work with all browsers, Safari, Firefox and of course IE.

First off, let me just say that I've been waiting for this day for almost a
year now. When Silverlight 1.0 came out, I was terribly disappointed but I
was also really eager as well. I saw potential in that JavaScript-only
cross-platform runtime. When Silverlight 1.1 came out (which I think was
actually only a few days after 1.0) as an alpha, I was even more intrigued
and excited. Sure, it had no controls, no layout panels, and no data binding,
and very little networking support - but it ran with a .NET CLR back-end, and
it was cross-platform. I was writing C# code in Visual Studio that would
eventually run (and could be debugged!!) on Safari on Mac OS X.
Now the first of what I consider the true Silverlight releases is here -
Silverlight 2.0 Beta 1. Microsoft has been getting an unfair onslaught of bad
press from developers regarding Silverlight. In the good old days... (more)

I've been poking around at some of the documentation for Google's Android
project. I've seen a couple of the code samples, read through a lot of the
SDK documentation and I've even checked out a couple of YouTube videos,
including this one:
I also highly recommend that you check out the 3 architecture videos that you
can find on YouTube. One of the engineers on the Android project takes us on
a detailed walkthrough of the architecture of the platform, how applications
work, and even shows us how memory, processes, activities, and state are
managed.
So here's what I've been able to take away as highlights from what I've read
and seen:
Notifications. Application code can be woken up when certain important events
take place. This is something that I really liked about PalmOS in that it
could wake your code up and do things necessary and then shu... (more)
As the pressure mounts to meet more stringent budgets, CIOs need to find the
proper balance between transforming IT and reducing costs. IT operational
costs continue to increase as a percentage of overall IT dollars. At the same
time, IT is being pressured to provide an innovative, competitive advantage
for the business.
Will the Enterprise Cloud support both? Can the Enterprise Cloud make
infrastructure operations faster, easier, cheaper, and safer while also
unleashing the transformative creativity of the workforce? Will the Cloud be
both a strong efficiency play as well as the Infrastructure's Ultimate
Revenge by positioning IT to be the accelerator of corporate strategy instead
of its bottleneck? All these questions, plus many more will be answered for
you by Jill Singer during her session.

show you how to build a Silverlight application from start to finish, as well
overall strategy why we should or shouldn't use Silverlight. No matter
whether you have LAMP, ASP.NET or Java Web application, you can take

Jan. 11, 2019 07:00 PM EST | By Yeshim Deniz Every organization is facing their own Digital Transformation as they attempt to stay ahead of the competition, or worse, just keep up. Each new opportunity, whether embracing machine learning, IoT, or a cloud migration, seems to bring new development, deployment, and management models. The results are more diverse and federated computing models than any time in our history.

The radical shift to digital mechanisms for almost every process is evident across all industries and verticals. As this movement continues to expand and gain momentum it creates a massive wall of noise that can be difficult to sift through.
