Revelytix and MapR Announce Strategic Partnership for Hadoop Data Management

Revelytix Loom now helps MapR customers manage Hadoop data complexity

SPARKS, Md., Sept. 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Revelytix today announced a strategic partnership with MapR Technologies, Inc., the Hadoop technology leader, to enable customers to more easily manage the complexity of the Hadoop data landscape by combining the benefits of Revelytix's Loom with the MapR Distribution for Apache Hadoop.  As a MapR partner, Revelytix is aligning with an industry leader in Big Data to address the needs of customers globally.

With the exponential growth in both semi-structured and unstructured data, enterprise-grade features are critical when deploying Hadoop to extract business insight from Big Data analytics. MapR enables customers to realize the benefits at a lower total cost of ownership than other distributions while enabling the widest number of use cases via open APIs.

With the combination of MapR and Revelytix Loom, users gain the benefits of Loom Activescan to dynamically discover new files in HDFS and automatically parse and register the files as working datasets in Hadoop.  Loom Lineage tracks all transformations to HDFS data so that users can know where data originated and how it has been transformed.  Loom Public API gives any application access to the Hadoop data management features of Loom.  Together with Loom's best-of-breed metadata management features, the MapR/Revelytix solution brings much needed order to the complexity of production Hadoop deployments.

With Hadoop's multiple schemas, diverse file types, transformations and datasets, companies running Hadoop production systems have recognized that data complexity is coming into focus as a critical challenge.  The data management capabilities Loom brings to Hadoop make all users more productive by helping them find and manage the data they need.  Loom's automatic tracking provide data assurance and compliance best practice for Hadoop production.MapR customers now also have access to additional data science capabilities through Loom.  Many organizations are looking for a good way to use the open source R programming language with Hadoop data.  Loom makes it simple for R users to work directly with the data in Hadoop with its connection to the popular R Studio IDE and all other R consoles.

"Revelytix believes a strong relationship with MapR helps customers deploy and use Hadoop more productively for the enterprise," said Michael Lang, CEO.

"MapR's customers have seen the scalability, manageability, performance and high-availability advantages that set us apart from other Hadoop distributions," said Alan Geary, senior director business development at MapR Technologies. "Loom's data management capabilities provide customers with valuable insights into their data, freeing up resources to focus on their business, applications and customers."

Mike Lang said further, "We have been working with MapR since the earliest days of Loom development.  Now that Loom has started shipping, we are excited to be putting in place the support required to bring these capabilities that can provide an immediate ROI to MapR customers."

MapR's innovative distribution transforms Hadoop into a dependable Big Data platform. MapR advances make Hadoop easy, dependable and fast with unique innovations. The  MapR Distribution is integrated, tested and hardened; and runs Hadoop applications via standard APIs including HBase and HDFS with little to no changes to existing Hadoop applications.

Digital Transformation is much more than a buzzword. The radical shift to digital mechanisms for almost every process is evident across all industries and verticals. This is often especially true in financial services, where the legacy environment is many times unable to keep up with the rapidly shifting demands of the consumer. The constant pressure to provide complete, omnichannel delivery of customer-facing solutions to meet both regulatory and customer demands is putting enormous pressure on...
IoT is rapidly becoming mainstream as more and more investments are made into the platforms and technology. As this movement continues to expand and gain momentum it creates a massive wall of noise that can be difficult to sift through. Unfortunately, this inevitably makes IoT less approachable for people to get started with and can hamper efforts to integrate this key technology into your own portfolio. There are so many connected products already in place today with many hundreds more on the h...
The standardization of container runtimes and images has sparked the creation of an almost overwhelming number of new open source projects that build on and otherwise work with these specifications. Of course, there's Kubernetes, which orchestrates and manages collections of containers. It was one of the first and best-known examples of projects that make containers truly useful for production use. However, more recently, the container ecosystem has truly exploded. A service mesh like Istio addr...

To Really Work for Enterprises, MultiCloud Adoption Requires Far Better and Inclusive Cloud Monitoring and Cost Management … But How? Overwhelmingly, even as enterprises have adopted cloud computing and are expanding to multi-cloud computing, IT leaders remain concerned about how to monitor, manage and control costs across hybrid and multi-cloud deployments. It’s clear that traditional IT monitoring and management approaches, designed after all for on-premises data centers, are falling short in ...
