A robust ecosystem of solutions providers has emerged around cloud computing.
But who are the CEOs & CTOs behind those providers, who are the internal and
external entrepreneurs driving companies involved in the Cloud, who are the
leading engineers, developers, analysts, researchers, marketing
professionals, authors...who, in short, are the people behind the cloud?
This list will be updated weekly between now and November 4-7, 2013, when

Writing shell scripts to automate the build and deploy process for ColdFusion
applications is not very much fun. The Jakarta Ant project is an open-source,
cross-platform alternative that makes it easy to automate the build and
deploy process.
But My Build and Deploy Process is Fine....
Maybe your build and deploy process for your latest application is fine - you
type a single command and your build process automatically retrieves your
application from the source control system, configures the application
appropriately for the target environment, and copies all the necessary files
to the production servers while you head to the coffee shop for your morning
cup of caffeine and the newspaper. But I know that the reality for the vast
majority of projects I've seen (including many of my own applications!) are
built and deployed using a written multistep checklist - some ... (more)
The Gartner Hype cycle research shows Cloud Computing as being on the peak of
expectations… the very top of the hype bubble roller coaster.
Vendors are looking for something to sell, and the consolidation of the data
center, reducing operational cost and economy of scale are as convenient of
an excuse as anything. There are some fundamental technologies as well that
will make a big difference such as Virtualization.
Is computing becoming a utility?
When someone refers to cloud, the etymology of the term should be examined.
This term comes from the days of network diagramming, and a cloud was an
abstraction for the network. Basically whenever someone didnt feel like
drawing all of the network entities, they would just draw a puffy white
cloud. In essence the puffy white cloud is shorthand for “don’t worry
your pretty little head about this stuff”.
In doing so, one ha... (more)

LinkedIn, ZoomInfo, Jigsaw, etc. all provide a great research platform. I use
LinkedIn many times when I'm researching a company because not only does it
give me the company information, key statistics, news articles, etc., but it
also provides me information about with whom I'm connected. I use this
information to see if the company and my connections within the company are
on Twitter. If they are, I will begin to follow them. Why? I may be able to
get a sense of company culture, job postings that... (more)
Full-Day Cloud Computing Bootcamp will take place during SYS-CON's Cloud
Computing Conference & Expo Europe, May 18-19, in Prague.
Cloud computing is an opportunity for businesses to implement low-cost,
low-power and high-efficiency systems to deliver scalable infrastructure. But
moving to a cloud infrastructure is not necessarily as nice and clean as the
providers would want you to think. With cloud infrastructures problems don't
magically go away; they just shift: you don't have scalability or storage
problems any more, but you need to constantly monitor the cloud and your
application in it.
Led by Alan Williamson, the Cloud Computing Bootcamp will illustrate all the
major players and provide a hands-on program with configuration samples, live
demos and working setups you can further adapt and play with.

Rackspace Hosting Thursday open sourced the specifications for its Cloud
Servers and Cloud Files APIs under the Creative Commons 3.0 Attribution
license.
It says it worked with developers in an open community to create the
specifications and they can now copy, implement and modify the specs, which
Rackspace figures should help enable a "truly open cloud."
Of course Eucalyptus already offers an open source cloudware.
Eucalyptus Systems CTO Rich Wolski said he welcomed Rackspace's decision to
provide its client-side tools as open source because it will help achieve
cloud interoperability.
Rackspace is also making its Cloud Files language bindings for Java, PHP,
Python, C# and Ruby available under the MIT license.
The source code is up on GitHub, a public software versioning system, at

second, declares itself the winner," and he continues "I have no problem with
competition. I think it's good for Microsoft, VMware, Cisco and AT&T.; It's
just as good, and healthy, for IT publications. I do have a problem, however,

CloudEXPO Stories By Yeshim Deniz Every organization is facing their own Digital Transformation as they attempt to stay ahead of the competition, or worse, just keep up. Each new opportunity, whether embracing machine learning, IoT, or a cloud migration, seems to bring new development, deployment, and management models. The results are more diverse and federated computing models than any time in our history.
Dec. 18, 2018 11:45 PM EST | By Pat Romanski On-premise or off, you have powerful tools available to maximize the value of your infrastructure and you demand more visibility and operational control. Fortunately, data center management tools keep a vigil on memory contestation, power, thermal consumption, server health, and utilization, allowing better control no matter your cloud's shape. In this session, learn how Intel software tools enable real-time monitoring and precise management to lower operational costs and optimize infrastructure for today even as you're forecasting for tomorrow.
