It’s been about a year and a half since I wrote about my wrist pains that
would often occur at work, which was being caused by something I bet many of
us deal with from time to time… Repetitive Strain Injury. So, I’ve been
wearing these gloves when I’m at work on my normal Apple keyboard. I knew
that they helped to some degree because on the days that I forgot them, my
wrists would begin to hurt after a hour or two of coding/writing emails. Not
much fun.
A few months ago, I attempted to start typing with Dvorak, which started off
with requiring myself to do it for about three hours each morning to start
the day and then switching back. After about a week and a half, I forgot to
continue doing it. The Dvorak keyboard sits next to my desk… whispering to
me, “play with me”... but I haven’t had time to get back into it.
So, the strain continues from time to time. Over t... (more)
I rode the BART into SF last night for a dinner near Moscone, first BART trip
I've taken with the new Asus Eee PC 901 with XP. It's a fine little computer,
so little in fact that you can almost think of it as a cell phone or an iPod,
maybe a big iPhone, esp if you add on an EVDO modem, which I have.
I had a 20 minute wait for the train returning to the East Bay at the
Montgomery St station, so I whipped out the Asus, thinking I'd listen to some
music or watch some video, but I noticed there was a wifi signal. Odd, since
we were about 50 to 100 feet underground. Turns out it was an official BART
wifi signal, a free trial, so I signed up, logged on, and downloaded the
latest episode of Fresh Air and listened to it on the train home.
Now get this -- the wifi signal went about 1/2 the way across the tunnel
under the bay! After the signal went away, with the lid closed the A... (more)
Stitcher, the personalized streaming radio service, is releasing its native
iPhone application in a limited private beta. The first 100 TechCrunch
readers to submit their email addresses here will be eligible to participate.
Note that you’ll have to submit your iPhone’s serial number, which is
required by Apple’s Ad Hoc beta program (as is the 100 user limit).
Stitcher can best be described as Pandora for everything but music, allowing
users to compile a playlist of audio feeds from hundreds of sources,
including news sites and radio stations. The site also employs a small team
to read popular blogs and websites aloud so you can listen to them on the go.
When I first covered Stitcher in May, I wrote that the site’s mobile
service had a lot of potential, but that its iPhone web app was slow and
clunky (which was more an issue with Mobile Safari than Stitcher).

I've spent the last month working on a new release of the OPML Editor for Mac
and Windows. The goal is to ship with an empty Tools folder, and make
installing tools a point-click operation, as it always should have been. So
far it's going really well.
As part of the process I'm rewriting the HowTos for the OPML Editor. They're
starting to show up in Google, which is good. I'm going to point to them here
as they are ready for review. There's a place to leave comments at the bottom
of each of the documents.
Here's the first new howto, it explains how to edit subscription lists with
the OPML Editor.

My reaction to the past three debates have exactly mirrored America’s
reaction overall. This never happens. Usually, I’m convinced that my guy
totally ruled, and the next day I find out that America couldn’t get past
his sighs, his lock box, or his seeming complacency about the hypothetical
rape of his wife.
I’m scared, too, kids*…

Remember what Bush said he was going to do internationally? Have a good,
rueful laugh:
You might also enjoy this moment of Bush cowardice. But, of course, I’m,
wrong about how America took it.

Back when the iPhone first launched and the App Store was still a twinkle in
Apple’s eye, the only way to get your goods onto the platform was to
develop them as an iPhone-optimized web page - otherwise known as an iPhone
Web App. Unable to make use of much of iPhone’s functionality (like the
GPS, camera, etc.), Web Apps were quickly considered the inferior option when
Apple unshackled the iPhone SDK, opening the doors for the standalone
Objective-C apps which have since flooded through the App Store. It was great
news for Objective-C developers and consumers looking for rich applications -
but not so much for those who’d grown accustomed to developing for the web.
At the recent Future of Web Apps conference in Miami, Y-Combinator-backed 280
North announced Atlas, a drag-and-drop visual editor for building desktop web
applications with Cappuccino, 280 North’s Javasc... (more)
A new tool for the OPML Editor, it's what I use to connect voicemail I create
using my iPhone to Twitter, FriendFeed and Identi.ca.
http://editor.opml.org/blogTalkRadioTool.html
It's really easy to install, and you don't have to leave it running if you're
at the computer when you post the voice message. Or, if you're going out --
just leave the OPML Editor running with the tool installed and when you post
something, anywhere you have a cellphone signal, your followers will hear
what's going on, in your own voice, with no 140 charcter limit.
This tool comes to you thanks to the Cinch service from BlogTalkRadio. It's
an incredibly easy facility, there's no setup. Details on the howto link,
