Doug Tidwell, Senior Software Engineer at IBM, will be presenting at SYS-CON's 2nd International Cloud Computing Conference & Expo in New York City this coming March 30-April 1, 2009. Tidwell, who works in IBM’s Software Strategy group focusing on Cloud Computing and SOA, will look at how to deploy, use and manage services in the cloud.
"REST and WS-* services have made the software behind our applications more flexible," notes Tidwell, adding: "Cloud computing promises to do the same for the hardware."
In his session he'll start by using REST (JSR-311) to work with code and data in the cloud, and go on to look at some of the more advanced features of the WS-* stack, including encryption and authentication.
"Delegates who come to my session will leave with an understanding of how these two major trends complement each other," Tidwell says.
Speaker Bio: Doug Tidwell is a Senior Software Engineer at IBM. He was a speaker at the first XML conference in 1997, and has spoken on technical topics around the world. He works in IBM’s Software Strategy group, focusing on Cloud Computing and SOA. He is the author of O'Reilly's book on XSLT, a co-author of O'Reilly's book on SOAP, and has published dozens of articles and tutorials on IBM's developerWorks site and elsewhere.

Cloud Computing Is Swelling Into an Estimated $36BN Market
The Cloud Computing conference theme this March is “The Delivery of IT Resources as Services” - with 100+ breakout sessions by leading industry CEOs and CTOs whose companies already recognize that what today's companies need above all is to be able to build infrastructures that can scale up or down at a moment's notice.
Over the next five years, IDC expects spending on IT cloud services to grow almost threefold, reaching $42 billion by 2012 and accounting for some 9% of total software sales. More importantly, spending on cloud computing will accelerate throughout the forecast period, capturing 25% of IT spending growth in 2012 and nearly a third of growth the following year.
Cloud computing helps IT cut infrastructure costs while adding new features and services to grow core businesses. Clouds can help grow margins as costs are cut back but service offerings are expanded.
Top Keynotes, Top Technical & Business Sessions, Top Delegates
2nd International Cloud Computing Conference & Expo will feature 100+ technical sessions from the leading industry players from the main layers of the Cloud ecosystem - the infrastructure players, the platform providers, and those offering applications and services. By Elizabeth White Using new techniques of information modeling, indexing, and processing, new cloud-based systems can support cloud-based workloads previously not possible for high-throughput insurance, banking, and case-based applications. In his session at 18th Cloud Expo, John Newton, CTO, Founder and Chairman of Alfresco, described how to scale cloud-based content management repositories to store, manage, and retrieve billions of documents and related information with fast and linear scalability.
He addressed the challenges of scaling document repositories to this level; architectural approaches for coordinating data; search and storage technologies, Solr, and Amazon storage and database technologies; the breadth of use cases that modern content systems need to support; how to support user applications that require subsecond response times.Jul. 4, 2018 09:00 PM EDT Reads: 9,619 |

By Pat Romanski Cloud is the motor for innovation and digital transformation. CIOs will run 25% of total application workloads in the cloud by the end of 2018, based on recent Morgan Stanley report. Having the right enterprise cloud strategy in place, often in a multi cloud environment, also helps companies become a more intelligent business. Companies that master this path have something in common: they create a culture of continuous innovation.
In his presentation, Dilipkumar will outline the latest research and steps companies can take to make innovation a daily work habit by using enterprise cloud computing. I will share examples from companies that have benefited from enterprise cloud computing and take a look into the future of how the cloud helps companies become a more intelligent business.Jul. 4, 2018 12:00 PM EDT |

The digital transformation is real! To adapt, IT professionals need to transform their own skillset to become more multi-dimensional by gaining both depth and breadth of a wide variety of knowledge and competencies. Historically, while IT has been built on a foundation of specialty (or "I" shaped) silos, the DevOps principle of "shifting left" is opening up opportunities for developers, operational staff, security and others to grow their skills portfolio, advance their careers and become "T"-shaped.
The past few years have brought a sea change in the way applications are architected, developed, and consumed-increasing both the complexity of testing and the business impact of software failures. How can software testing professionals keep pace with modern application delivery, given the trends that impact both architectures (cloud, microservices, and APIs) and processes (DevOps, agile, and continuous delivery)? This is where continuous testing comes in.
Attend this session to discover why and how continuous testing is different from traditional test automation.
