Yes indeed! It’s SHARK WEEK on FULL OF I.T.! This is the week of the year
that we get aggressive here on the blog! We stir up the waters and bait the
hooks with tasty I.T. goodness! We rip our competitors to shreds! We…
“Hey Kevin… Aren’t you just stealing this idea from the Discovery
Channel?”
Huh? They have a Shark Week, too? No.. they probably stole it from me.
And besides, this is completely different. I don’t have a big car company
sponsor like they do.
Anyway, this week I’m going to be commenting on and linking to resources
that compare and contrast Microsoft’s solutions to our nearest competitors,
as well as adding some of my own commentary. (Carefully worded, of
course. I don’t want to be fired.) And I invite you to join the
discussion if you completely disagree with me; or if you just want to add a
“yeah!”… either way is perfectly... (more)
Intel is developing platform innovations to enable corporations to work more
efficiently and to collaborate more easily, according to company Senior Vice
President Pat Gelsinger, who spoke recently at the Intel Developer Forum
(IDF) in San Francisco.
"Working in partnership with software developers and OEMs to make this vision
a reality, some of the cooperative programs include models that build on
Voice over IP (VoIP) including business class audio that is twice as rich as
today's normal phone lines," he said..
In this spirit, the company announced that Intel and Skype are collaborating
to deliver VoIP applications on Intel Platforms. Multi-core platforms are the
key to delivering these new ways of using technology and providing the
horsepower for embedded IT capabilities, Gelsinger noted.
A number of platforms were shown and demonstrated at IDF, including systems ... (more)
For anyone still doubting whether the Cloud indeed will change everything,
the below video is really something to watch. It tells the story of how UK
headquartered Logicalis group partnered with Cisco, Netapp and CA to deliver
their Cooperative Enterprise Cloud Service. After being the first vendor to
deploy Cisco new Unified Computing System in the UK it took the approach one
step further and developed it “as a service”.
Don’t let the name BOCS, which stands for “Bespoke On-Site Cloud
Service” put you off. Because it seems to deliver everything one could want
from a cloud. It runs indoor - nice and secure - during normal conditions,
but can scale seamlessly to include additional capacity when needed. And best
of all, customers do not have to go out and buy several tyes of software and
hardware and piece it all together, that has already been done. Seems too
good to... (more)

This question came from a land-lubber coward** (meaning: didn’t give
his/her name) at a TechNet Event IT Camp in Minneapolis…
(**Just joking, friend. I thanks for coming to the event!)
I absolutely love this question. There is so much genuine passion in this
topic, and believe me, I have a strong opinion - just like most devotees of
mobile devices. (And our numbers are growing every day.)
My short answer: NEVER!
My longer answer: I guess the question needs to be answered in a certain
context. That is to say: What is the mobile arena?
I am assuming that the writer of this question means smartphones; though I
suppose he/she may mean tablets as well… or anything really that is
“mobile” - having the form-factor that is easily carried around.
Is Microsoft going to give up in this area? Absolutely not. Microsoft is
committed to provi... (more)

feel free to check out the entire list of blog entries (along with related
blog entries) here, though I assure you that this installment, like most of
the others, does not require you to have read those that went before.

Today, my vacationing friend Matt Hester is the author of part 16 in our
“31 Days of Servers in the Cloud” series.
“Vacationing?”
Yep. How’s that for dedication?
“Oh.. he probably wrote it before he left, and scheduled it to go live
today.”
Something like that.
Anyway, today he gives us even more very good reasons why you should consider
using Windows Azure as an extension of your datacenter.
