As part of its war on Linux, Microsoft and Windows-struck Cornell University have conjured up a Computational Clustering Technical Preview (CCTP) CD Toolkit – 2003 Edition for creating and evaluating computational clusters built on Windows 2000.
It contains all the software to set up, manage and run an HPC cluster plus development tools, libraries and how-to white papers on application development.
The kit includes evaluation copies of Win2K XP Professional and Win2K Advanced Server, a trial DVD of Visual Studio.NET and, for purposes of migration, an eval version of Microsoft Service for Unix 3.0.
It’s even supposed to include some open source widgetry described as the portable implementation of the Messaging Passing Interface Standard (MPI-CH 1.2.4) and significant parts of MPI-2, particularly the areas of parallel I/O.
