Leading business intelligence reporting and data visualizations provider Visual Mining has announced the release of NetCharts Designer 4.5.3. The Eclipse-based tool is offered, says the company, as a less costly alternative to Java-based business intelligence reporting tools.
The tool greatly simplifies the creation of Web-based dynamic dashboards and interactive graphical tools. Dashboards are often used to provide user-friendly graphical representations of key system metrics, like RAM utilization, or active/inactive program states.
A Wizard appliance takes the user through all the necessary steps needed to create reports and visualizations. NetCharts' graphical layout editor and Wizard puts all users, whether experienced or not, on an equal keel. The program's guided approach takes users through all required steps, beginning with interacting with data sources, and ending with actual charts and tables design.
Complete reports can be created with NetCharts using drag-and-drop development, that creates finished reports using charts and tables the user selects.
Rounding off report creation, a code generator takes XML-based report definitions into JSP, ASP, .NET, CFML, or even PDF. Any one of these platforms or document types can be deployed in virtually any modern application server.
Visual Mining said it welcomes open source solutions that can add to its business intelligence solutions offerings. CEO Kevin Scott, specifically commented on the business intelligence reporting tool (BIRT) initiative announced at Eclipse.org.
He said, "We are encouraged by the interest in driving down costs and complexity of developing Java-based reporting solutions. The feature set proposed by BRIT is remarkably similar to out existing NetCharts Designer architecture. We will be able to easily integrate BIRT-like technology, and continue providing high-end graphics and reporting to the business community.
