Intel is moving beyond its cellular flash products into flash memory for
consumer electronics devices. Intel will also start making flash memory
cards, a new market for the chip company.
"Intel is no longer a niche business that plays in cellular only," said Darin
Billerbeck, vice president Intel Communications Group, "We realized (our
previous approach) wasn't the greatest strategy because we excluded ourselves
from a lot of different markets...There is about 50 percent of the cellular
market we don't play in."
Currently Intel only makes NOR flash. While this kind of flash is good for
storing code it lacks the density of NAND flash which is used in memory cards
that store MP3 files and digital photos. "In order to be relevant in the
removable-card market, we need a data play," Billerbeck said. "We're looking
at a lot of different technologies."

Egenera Inc. has chosen the Egenera BladeFrame system and Egenera vBlade
software for its critical staging environment. Betfair is one of the fastest
growing online businesses in the world with millions of end-user customers.
One of the key factors driving Betfair's success is its strong focus on
offering users new products and enhanced functionality. Betfair employs a
three-step development and quality assurance, staging, and production process
to develop, test and deploy new functionality and services before they are
made available on the Betfair Website. As a result of its rapid growth,
Betfair needed a more efficient and agile pre-production staging environment
that could scale to support more than three times the new offerings schedule

One user and a consistently up-to-date profile – this sounds so simple,
but in IT it's a challenge. User profiles in Windows-based computing
environments are becoming increasingly complex while gaining in importance at
the same time. Users no longer use just one device. Instead, they are
redirected to suitable computers via a variety of virtualization techniques.
Products, from Microsoft, Citrix or VMware, take care of assigning computing
resources suitable for the users' tasks.
sepago defines the virtualization of user profiles as the de-coupling of the
user data from operating system and application provisioning. This does not
depend on the device at which the user logs in nor on how applications are
being provisioned. "Virtualization of user profiles means that the end user
finally gets to enjoy the benefits of the virtualization movement,“

RF Code announced the availability of a far-reaching solution giving data
center professionals the on-demand ability to know instantly, at any time,
the exact location of every one of their computing assets. By automating IT
asset tracking in the data center, IT managers now can have an
“instant” inventory of all their data center assets. That’s
because the solution conducts a complete and accurate inventory every few
seconds, as opposed to the weeks it usually takes to inventory assets.
This announcement reinforces RF Code’s aggressive move into the IT
asset management space. Recently, the company introduced a Bluetooth enabled
mobile reader, the first mobile offering to provide distributed inventory and
on-demand search applications for IT assets. Now, the company becomes the
first to solve the rack level tracking challenge by automating the... (more)

Oct. 2, 2018 02:00 PM EDT | By Liz McMillan Keeping an application running at scale can be a daunting task. When do you need to add more capacity? Larger databases? Additional servers? These questions get harder as the complexity of your application grows. Microservice based architectures and cloud-based dynamic infrastructures are technologies that help you keep your application running with high availability, even during times of extreme scaling.
But real cloud success, at scale, requires much more than a basic lift-and-shift migration. It requires successfully navigating the world of the dynamic cloud. The dynamic cloud doesn't just let you scale your applications, but it makes the process much faster and easier. It also allows your development teams to respond to changes faster, and implement these changes faster. Not everyone is ready for moving their applications to a fully dynamic cloud-based environment, but success in ... Oct. 2, 2018 12:45 PM EDT | By Yeshim Deniz To Really Work for Enterprises, MultiCloud Adoption Requires Far Better and Inclusive Cloud Monitoring and Cost Management … But How? Overwhelmingly, even as enterprises have adopted cloud computing and are expanding to multi-cloud computing, IT leaders remain concerned about how to monitor, manage and control costs across hybrid and multi-cloud deployments. It’s clear that traditional IT monitoring and management approaches, designed after all for on-premises data centers, are falling short in this new hybrid and dynamic environment.
