"With Yahoo! oneSearch 2.0, we are fundamentally changing the way consumers
use the Internet on their mobile phones,"? said Marco Boerries, executive
vice president, Connected Life, Yahoo! as the search giant unveiled Yahoo!
oneSearch 2.0, a new version of its award-winning mobile search service.
"With the launch of Yahoo! oneSearch in 2007," he continued, "we
revolutionized mobile search by re-creating search specifically for the
mobile phone, focusing on answers, not just Web links. In just over a year,
we signed 29 partnerships with carriers across the globe, covering more than
600 million consumers under contract.”
Key enhancements will allow users to initiate searches faster using text or
voice, said Boerries. Yahoo! also plans to provide greater relevance through
richer, more detailed search results by opening up Yahoo! oneSearch to
publishers to integrate... (more)
Yes, we know you can get Qik for your jailbroken iPhones now, but this is the
App Store version and Mr. Rose, personal hero of mine, gets a look at it
before all of us. Jealous? Didn’t think so. Anyway, Rose pontificates that
the version he has is near final and that it should be coming soon for free.
Would you want your Qik followers to know exactly where you’re streaming
from?
Also, you better order that Mophie Juice Pack now because this is going to
suck the life out of your iPhone 3G faster than a paparrazo’s shutter when
Lohan slips a nip.

For many Web startups, the elections offer an opportunity to showcase their
technologies and reach people who might never otherwise hear about them.
Vineet Choudhary launched his startup Perspctv around the elections. The site
is a one-page dashboard that gives a snapshot of how Obama and McCain are
doing in the polls, the news, the blogosphere, and Twitter, among other
things. The site proves nothing about the election’s outcome, but it does
provide a useful dashboard for monitoring it from different perspectives.
But the election site was just a dry run. The real point of Perspctv is to
give marketers a way to monitor how their brands are being talked about
across various media. As the election concludes, Choudhary is transitioning
the site to become a new-media dashboard for marketers. You can already
search for any terms and see how much online buzz they are gen... (more)

Apple’s App Store is getting ever closer to hitting the 1 Billion download
milestone, check out http://www.apple.com/itunes/billion-app-countdown/ (in
fact it is counting up). By my calculation it should reach its goal in the
next few days or so and to be sure we will hear about it in the press!
Seriously though, think about it, this feat is outstanding when you realize
that the iTunes store took about 3 years to get to 1 Billion downloads and
towards the end of 2008 the App Store was only just over 0.5 Billion. So
where was the turning point? As far as I can tell, after the iPhone 3G
appeared and the native SDK became available to the ever growing throng of
developers, application submissions increased and downloads along with the
amount of apps available. This increase in developers and applications, has
in turn fed the interest and uptake even more in a self perpe... (more)
In this day and age, with technology, no one works alone — that’s how
Soonr sees it. And it’s a key part of the company’s offering:
collaboration. Another is portability, and with the launch of the 3.0 version
of its software, Soonr is expanding in both of those areas.
And this update comes complete with an attempt to leverage two of the hottest
things out there: the iPhone and netbooks. Soonr launched its iPhone app back
in January, and despite supporting some 800 phones, the company still touts
that one as a key part of its business. And netbooks are a slightly newer
phenomenon that the company is now mentioning as fitting in to what it’s
trying to do. Sure, Soonr works on netbooks, just like it works on other
computers. But buzz-worthy products aside, the key idea is that you can
access your documents from a huge variety of devices, no matter where you
are.

I just upgraded my Verizon Blackberry World Edition to the BlackBerry Tour
9630. This note provides a few observations.
I use my phone for business, so I need good clear always-on voice. But my
Blackberry is also my hand held office. I need a device that lets me rapidly
draft and send e-mails, and I need always on connectivity to the many cloud
computing services we have all grown to depend upon in this cloud driven
age. I need access to contact info from the cloud and need access to my
office and home calendars. I need access to work documents, spreadsheets
and presentations as well.
My previous phone, the older Blackberry 8830 World Edition, met most all the
requirements I really needed met. It was great at receiving and sending
e-mail and had a keyboard that lets me fly when it comes to typing.
Browsing speeds on the Verizon World were acceptable. I almos... (more)
