No sooner did Jonathan Schwartz, Sun's dynamic president and COO, announce
earlier this week the imminent open-sourcing of Solaris - from Shanghai,
where Sun was unleashing its next wave of product and pricing innovation at
its first-ever Asia-based SunNetwork conference - than another indication has
been given of an intent to open up a Sun technology.

inevitably follow.
The discussion has been running for several months, indeed years.

The issue of serializing/transforming model objects is not new, heck
I’ve been doing this for quite some time:
RMI (ejb/corba) XML (jms, soap, etc..) JSON JSON is not the only way to
serialize objects for Web 2.0 applications, but it's the most abundant and
heavily used throughout the Appclerator framework. Doing this is actually
really easy to do with Appcelerator IModelObjects. Our IModelObjects can
easily be used along with Hibernate for persistance, but let's leave that for
later for now.
When you define your Model classes, there are some very simple things to keep
in mind:annotate your attributes with @MessageAttr have your class implement
IModelObject
Here is a simple example:

Certain elements in the Java and JavaScript communities have been buzzing
about Tennent's Correspondence Principle. I have heard it described as the
ability to replace an expression with a function, so that
expression
means the same thing as
(function () { return expression; })()
There are some things that can't be enclosed that way, such as return
statements and break statements, which the advocates of Tennent's
Correspondence Principle (or TCP) claim is a symptom of a bad smell. Yow!
Language design is already difficult enough without having to cope with
olfactory hallucinations. So to better understand the problem, I bought a
copy of Tennent's 1981 book, Principles of Programming Languages.
It turns out that the Correspondence Principle is descriptive, not
prescriptive. He uses it to analyze the (by now forgotten) Pascal programming

Mergers & Acquisitions on Ulitzer
Sun said late Tuesday that it will be forced to cut 3,000 jobs worldwide over
the next 12 months because of “the delay in the closing of the acquisition
of the company,” laying the blame squarely at the doorstep of the European
Commission and its prolonged investigation into whether Oracle should be
allowed to acquire the Sun-owned MySQL open source database.
It could be playing hardball with the EC, which some think has an interim
deadline this week to decide how much longer its investigation is going to
take. It could take until we’re deep into January.
In an SEC filing Sun said its board had approved the plan “to better align
the company’s resources with its strategic business objectives.”
Sun expects to incur total charges of $75 - 125 million over the next several
quarters, most likely the December and March quarters, in connectio... (more)
I had the opportunity to spend some time recently with Asure Software's VP/GM
of EMEA and APAC, Nigel Clarke, and to discuss how digital transformation is
impacting work spaces and the mobile workforce. In years past I attended
facility management conferences and developed mobile apps to help manage
facilities, assets, rooms, inspections, materials and supplies. We were
counting and inspecting physical objects. Today, however, there are digital
transformations taking place in this industry.
Today, companies less often require employees to work in the physical office
(sorry folks at Yahoo!). Often equipment is not associated with a location,
but moves to where it is needed at any given time. When people do come into
the office there is a need to find a desk, conference room, video or
projection equipment and to use additional services to ensure their use of

CloudEXPO Stories By Liz McMillan The now mainstream platform changes stemming from the first Internet boom brought many changes but didn’t really change the basic relationship between servers and the applications running on them. In fact, that was sort of the point.
In his session at 18th Cloud Expo, Gordon Haff, senior cloud strategy marketing and evangelism manager at Red Hat, will discuss how today’s workloads require a new model and a new platform for development and execution. The platform must handle a wide range of recent developments, including containers and Docker, distributed resource management, and DevOps tool chains and processes. The resulting infrastructure and management framework must be optimized for distributed and scalable applications, take advantage of innovation stemming from a wide variety of open source projects, span hybrid environments, and be adaptable to equally fundamental changes happen... Jul. 2, 2018 05:00 PM EDT Reads: 4,336 | By Pat Romanski Cloud is the motor for innovation and digital transformation. CIOs will run 25% of total application workloads in the cloud by the end of 2018, based on recent Morgan Stanley report. Having the right enterprise cloud strategy in place, often in a multi cloud environment, also helps companies become a more intelligent business. Companies that master this path have something in common: they create a culture of continuous innovation.
In his presentation, Dilipkumar will outline the latest research and steps companies can take to make innovation a daily work habit by using enterprise cloud computing. I will share examples from companies that have benefited from enterprise cloud computing and take a look into the future of how the cloud helps companies become a more intelligent business. Jul. 2, 2018 02:00 PM EDT | By Elizabeth White Traditional on-premises data centers have long been the domain of modern data platforms like Apache Hadoop, meaning companies who build their business on public cloud were challenged to run Big Data processing and analytics at scale. But recent advancements in Hadoop performance, security, and most importantly cloud-native integrations, are giving organizations the ability to truly gain value from all their data.
In his session at 19th Cloud Expo, David Tishgart, Director of Product Marketing at Cloudera, covered the ins and outs of Hadoop, and how it can help cloud-based businesses.
