What happens when you make paid search ads both relevant and visual?
Searchme, the search engine startup which presents results as a stack of
full-page previews that you can flip through, is hoping to find out with the
beta launch of AdView. Its first foray into advertising, AdView is
SearchMe’s version of AdWords, except that instead of selling of paid text
links it will be interspersing into its results clickable previews of entire
Webpages, videos, or other visual advertising.
If you are an advertiser and want to try it out, SearchMe is giving a free
trial to the first 500 companies or individuals that sign up here. That’s
right, you get to run a free ad campaign on SearchMe for 30 days.
To see how this works, search for “Ralph Lauren” and if you flip through
to the third result, it will be an ad that shows a landing page for its fall
collection. In other words,... (more)
Google China has taken the beta label off its dedicated, free MP3 search
engine now that the local Google branch announced deals with all four major
music labels (Warner, Universal, EMI and Sony) at a press conference earlier
today. The website, which had been in beta for over a year, can be found
here, or you can try the translated version (note that you won’t be able to
download or listen to songs outside of the country).
The site offers over a million music tracks thanks to a partnership with
Top100.cn (a company co-founded by basketball start Yao Ming which Google has
invested in), most of them Chinese but also foreign tunes approved by the
government. For example, users can download the latest Metallica album free
of charge, of which you can see a screenshot below. Apart from the four
labels mentioned above, several major publishers and 140+ indie labels are

Google Car
Other than wanting to live in Kansas City due to fast Internet, I am also
waiting patiently for the day where I can hop in a car and it drives itself.
The Google self-driving car project has been around for some time, but has
crossed a milestone of over 300,000 miles tested. If you hang out in Mountain
View around the Google Plex at all, you’ll see these cars driving around
with funny contraptions on the roof. You might also spot one on the highway,
it’s kind of interesting to watch, but pay attention to the road. Read the

Google may not be able to sell businesses a broadband connection outside of
its handful of fiber cities, but it could supply the final wireless link to
millions of restaurants, gyms and doctors’ offices, according to a new
report by The Information. According to The Information’s Amir Efrati,
Google plans to sell Wi-Fi gear at steep discounts to businesses in exchange
for managing their applications in its cloud and permission to extend
wireless internet access to other Google customers. If the report is true,
this could be part of a larger plan by Google to circumvent mobile carriers
and use Wi-Fi to connect more of its customers to its services on the go. Key
to strategy, according to Efrati, is the emerging technology Hotspot 2.0,
which allows Wi-Fi networks to behave more like cellular networks.

CloudEXPO Stories By Yeshim Deniz CI/CD is conceptually straightforward, yet often technically intricate to implement since it requires time and opportunities to develop intimate understanding on not only DevOps processes and operations, but likely product integrations with multiple platforms. This session intends to bridge the gap by offering an intense learning experience while witnessing the processes and operations to build from zero to a simple, yet functional CI/CD pipeline integrated with Jenkins, Github, Docker and Azure. Jul. 7, 2018 04:45 PM EDT Reads: 2,878 | By Elizabeth White They say multi-cloud is coming, but organizations are leveraging multiple clouds already. According to a study by 451 Research, only 21% of organizations were using a single cloud. If you've found yourself unprepared for the barrage of cloud services introduced in your organization, you will need to change your approach to engaging with the business and engaging with vendors. Look at technologies that are on the way and work with the internal players involved to have a plan in place when the inevitable happens and the business begins to look at how these things can help affect your bottom line. Jul. 7, 2018 06:45 AM EDT | By Pat Romanski The hierarchical architecture that distributes "compute" within the network specially at the edge can enable new services by harnessing emerging technologies. But Edge-Compute comes at increased cost that needs to be managed and potentially augmented by creative architecture solutions as there will always a catching-up with the capacity demands. Processing power in smartphones has enhanced YoY and there is increasingly spare compute capacity that can be potentially pooled. Uber has successfully been able to harness the excess capacity of privately owned vehicles and turned into a meaningful business. This concept can be step-functioned to harnessing the spare compute capacity of smartphones that can be orchestrated by MEC to provide cloud service at the edge. Jul. 6, 2018 12:00 PM EDT | By Elizabeth White Traditional on-premises data centers have long been the domain of modern data platforms like Apache Hadoop, meaning companies who build their business on public cloud were challenged to run Big Data processing and analytics at scale. But recent advancements in Hadoop performance, security, and most importantly cloud-native integrations, are giving organizations the ability to truly gain value from all their data.
In his session at 19th Cloud Expo, David Tishgart, Director of Product Marketing at Cloudera, covered the ins and outs of Hadoop, and how it can help cloud-based businesses. Jul. 5, 2018 02:15 PM EDT Reads: 9,268 | By Pat Romanski Cloud is the motor for innovation and digital transformation. CIOs will run 25% of total application workloads in the cloud by the end of 2018, based on recent Morgan Stanley report. Having the right enterprise cloud strategy in place, often in a multi cloud environment, also helps companies become a more intelligent business. Companies that master this path have something in common: they create a culture of continuous innovation.
In his presentation, Dilipkumar will outline the latest research and steps companies can take to make innovation a daily work habit by using enterprise cloud computing. I will share examples from companies that have benefited from enterprise cloud computing and take a look into the future of how the cloud helps companies become a more intelligent business.
