"Infoblox does DNS, DHCP and IP address management for not only enterprise
networks but cloud networks as well. Customers are looking for a single
platform that can extend not only in their private enterprise environment but
private cloud, public cloud, tracking all the IP space and everything that is
going on in that environment," explained Steve Salo, Principal Systems
Engineer at Infoblox, in this SYS-CON.tv interview at 21st Cloud Expo, held
Oct 31 - Nov 2, 2017, at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara,
CA.

Social Media on Ulitzer
I use all of these social media tools and although they haven't put me on my
own island in the Caribbean yet, I'm very pleased with the combined results.
1. Twitter – It’s the fastest way to share that you have created
something of value. As a bonus, Tweetdeck or CoTweet are good ways to manage
your Twitter efforts and research. Huge audience with lots of active
participants. There are a few shady characters on Twitter but just like being
at Grand Central Station, you just step aside and keep moving. It doesn't
mean you eschew the benefit. Micro-blogging is probably here to stay so it's
a good idea to get up on good habits regardless of what future tools look
like.
2. Linked In – It’s the professional network standard where people will
find you. A terrific way to maintain knowledge of what former colleagues are
doing now. You can also join gr... (more)
Oracle Keynote at Cloud Expo
Cloud Computing Expo - I hate to make new year's resolutions like a new diet
program or another trainer at my local gym. I also usually never bother
with annual predictions either, for that matter.
One exception to that personal rule is the long over due sale of TIBCO
Software.
Since Oracle's bloody murder acquisition of BEA Systems, for the past two
years there has been non-stop rumors that TIBCO would be next, of course
which did not happen so far.
Oracle was named exclusive Diamond Sponsor of Cloud Expo 2010, which will
take place April 19-21, at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York
City. Cloud Expo, with over 5,000 delegates and more than 200 sponsors, will
be the most significant technology event of the year.
Now that TIBCO's fourth quarter results are around the corner (on Tuesday
after the closing bell), the rumors star... (more)
Today RightScale did a webinar on their Cloud Business Intelligence offering
with Talend, Jaspersoft and Vertica. One of the bigger objections to cloud
BI in the past has been security — how can I move all of this mission
critical data to a public insecure cloud?
With Amazon VPC now in the picture, the BI datasets are now as secure at
Amazon as they are in your data center. Why wouldn’t you use the cloud
for your BI needs?

"As companies such as MySpace continue to expand the richness of their site,
the big thing is trying to seek a higher level of customer experience by
replicating "beyond capacity" in a test environment, so that a company can
see what it is exactly that they will need when traffic surges to peak levels
and beyond, so that they know the "risk points" of their own success," Tom
Lounibos, CEO of SOASTA, told SYS-CON's Jeremy Geelan in an interview with
Cloud Computing Journal on the day that SOASTA announced a significant test
of the newly launched MySpace Music Videos hub using the Cloud.
"What companies want nowadays is actionable information," Lounibos (pictured
below) continued. "They want PI (Performance Intelligence) instead of BI
[Business Intelligence]."
Tom Lounibos, CEO of SOASTA, spoke early in November at SYS-CON's 4th Cloud
Expo.

RightScale, Jaspersoft, Talend and Vertica have joined together to deliver a
complete business intelligence solution in the cloud.
Jaspersoft's kicking in the compute-intensive BI software, Talend the open
source data integration software, and Vertica the analytic database
management system running on Amazon and orchestrated by RightScale's cloud
management platform.
They call it a reference architecture but RightScale CEO Michael Crandell
says it's a finished product. It's a new model for RightScale, which has only
trafficked in components till now.
A base turnkey configuration will involve three servers, one for each
application and tuned for best practices. Rapid deployment should save users
the set-up and integration hassle.
BI remains a top IT priority despite the shrinking IT budget. The joint
pay-as-you-go solution is supposed to put affordable and actionable... (more)
IBM's latest offering Smart Analytics System is set to offer business
intelligence reporting, analysis, dashboards, and scorecards, data mining,
cubing services, text analytics, data warehouse management, storage and

cut costs and reduce risk while increasing customer loyalty.
This new system can also be used by clients or cloud service providers to
offer analytics to private or public cloud services.
This launch of Smart Analytics System, even in time of global recession, is
based on the need to invest in business analytics to gain a competitive
advantage over competitors. In coming months, IBM will further extend its BI
strategy with a series of cloud-based services.
IBM has been placing a big emphasis on BI in recent years, spending billions
to acquire Cognos and recently, creating a BI ser... (more)
Recently, I became an executive advisor to Kaavo, a Cloud Applications
Management software company. Kaavo is in a unique position to capitalize on
the soon to be obvious need to manage applications on the cloud. It's
interesting to see the cloud computing predictions and how it will change the
way we work with applications.
Overview
A solid majority of technology experts and stakeholders participating in the
fourth Future of the Internet survey expect that by 2020 most people will
access software applications online and share and access information through
the use of remote server networks, rather than depending primarily on tools
and information housed on their individual, personal computers. They say that
cloud computing will become more dominant than the desktop in the next
decade. In other words, most users will perform most computing and
communicating activitie... (more)

As more and more people are using Twitter, there is more effort being made by
individuals and businesses to leverage Twitter as a business tool.
Twitter recently published a Twitter Business Usage Guide. There are three
sections to this guide that include Getting Started, Best Practices and Case
Studies.
Here is the usage guide intro from Twitter, I encourage you to read the
actual guide.
Every day, millions of people use Twitter to create, discover and share ideas
with others. Now, people are turning to Twitter as an effective way to reach
out to businesses, too. From local stores to big brands, and from
brick-and-mortar to internet-based or service sector, people are finding
great value in the connections they make with businesses on Twitter.
When people working in the Empire State Building twittered that they were
craving ice cream delivery, ... (more)
History has many examples of invaders wielding steel swords, repeating
rifles, or whatever the latest weapon may be, driving out people who are less
well-equipped. Corporate IT departments are starting to go the same way, at
the hands of people equipped with cloud computing.
Recently I was at The Open Group conference in Boston. The Open Group is
neutral territory with a good view of the IT landscape: An ideal place to
watch the conflict develop.
The Open Group Cloud Computing Work Group has been focused on the business
reasons why companies should use cloud computing. The Work Group released
three free white papers at the Boston conference, which I think are worth a
closer look: “Strengthening your Business Case for Using Cloud,” “Cloud
Buyers Requirements Questionnaire,” and “Cloud Buyers Decision Tree.”

There is so much going on in social media, it’s difficult to keep up. So
I’m starting a series on different aspects of the social media landscape.
We start with social networking and bookmarking sites. I tried to focus on
the sites with the most traction so the articles don’t get unwieldy. If the
reader feels like I missed a social networking or bookmarking site with more
traffic along with stickiness, please let me know ([email protected]).
I’ll be happy to update the list if I feel your argument has merit. Also,
if I made any mistakes, please let me know. There were a lot of numbers here
and I learned long ago that I am not infallible by any stretch of the
imagination.
You can go to Part 2 (H-P) here and Part 3 (Q-Z) here.
We’ll start with A-G of Social Networking and Bookmarks. In just a few
days, I’ll release H-P and so on. Some of these sites are really sticky.... (more)
