Cristalink announced it has released Firestreamer-DVD 1.5. With this software Microsoft's backup utility can be used to backup data directly to DVD. The new version of Firestreamer-DVD introduces support for Microsoft SQL Server Backup (SQLBackup) and allows to natively back up live SQL databases directly to DVD.
The Auckland, New Zealand-based company has made a name for itself through specializing in device driver development, reverse engineering, and application development for Microsoft Windows operating systems. The new software emulates a virtual tape drive and integrates with Microsoft SQL Server, supporting all the features of SQLBackup, including complete, differential and transaction log backups, data compression, media spanning, backup scheduling with SQL Server Agent, manual backups with SQL Server Enterprise Manager, and automated backups with SQL script or any other programming language that supports Microsoft SQL-DMO objects.
Firestreamer-DVD also allows general purpose backups to DVD with the Microsoft backup utility (NTBackup), has the ability to span large backups across multiple DVD writers, and supports bare metal restore with Windows Automated System Recovery. The software operates on Microsoft Windows 2000, XP and 2003 Server, and is compatible with Microsoft Small Business Server 2000 and 2003.

While some developers care passionately about how data centers and clouds are architected, for most, it is only the end result that matters. To the majority of companies, technology exists to solve a business problem, and only delivers value when it is solving that problem. 2017 brings the mainstream adoption of containers for production workloads.
In his session at 21st Cloud Expo, Ben McCormack, VP of Operations at Evernote, discussed how data centers of the future will be managed, how the public cloud best suits your organization, and what the future holds for operations and infrastructur...
DevOps tends to focus on the relationship between Dev and Ops, putting an emphasis on the ops and application infrastructure. But that’s changing with microservices architectures. In her session at DevOps Summit, Lori MacVittie, Evangelist for F5 Networks, will focus on how microservices are changing the underlying architectures needed to scale, secure and deliver applications based on highly distributed (micro) services and why that means an expansion into “the network” for DevOps.
As Enterprise business moves from Monoliths to Microservices, adoption and successful implementations of Microservices become more evident. The goal of Microservices is to improve software delivery speed and increase system safety as scale increases. Documenting hurdles and problems for the use of Microservices will help consultants, architects and specialists to avoid repeating the same mistakes and learn how and when to use (or not use) Microservices at the enterprise level. The circumstance when Microservices is an appropriate solution described in this article and based on the authors' wor...
