The Road to a Cloud Adoption and Digital Transformation

Consumer Watchdog filed a Freedom of Information Act request today with the
White House Office of Science and Technology Policy seeking copies of email
between Internet Policy chief Andrew McLaughlin and his former employer,
Google Inc.
The nonpartisan, nonprofit consumer group made the request after an online
publication printed an article showing that McLaughlin's "Buzz" profile
revealed that many of his most frequent email correspondents were Google
employees. Before being appointed the OSTP's Deputy Chief Technology Officer
for Internet Policy, McLaughlin was Google's head of Global Public Policy,
its top global lobbyist.
Consumer Watchdog opposed McLaughlin's appointment by President Obama saying
that it violated the intent of the Administration's ethics rules meant to end
the revolving door between lobbyists and the executive branch.

Look beneath the covers, and you'll find organizations that appear remarkably like they did before the supposed transformation occurred. There is not a lot of real action beneath those words. The reason is as simple as it is devastating. Executing real digital transformation requires fundamental shifts in just about every facet of the organizational structure, operating model and business strategy.
The complex idea behind the term digital transformation is that technology has created a fundamental shift in how organizations operate. The consumerization of technology — and the customer empowerment it created — has upended the traditional operating paradigm of organizations moving it away from a capital and process-centric model to a customer-centric one.
The need to digitally transform your organization is now - or at least should be - a strategic imperative. The fact, however, that the term digital transformation is now a bona fide buzzword has obfuscated its importance.
