Apple is facing a fresh challenge from a UK start-up for control of video
delivery to the iPhone and the iPad. Jobaya has developed a Video on Demand
solution for both devices based entirely on Amazon’s AWS cloud
infrastructure. Content will be stored, transcoded and streamed from the
Cloud. The service will use custom web apps for each type of device
supported, starting with the iPhone and the iPad, and extending to Android
and Windows Mobile devices.
Unlike iTunes, which is based on downloading content to a Mac or PC, Jobaya
will stream directly to the iPad using WiFi, and to the iPhone using 3G and
WiFi. The service is currently in beta test on the iPhone and is ready for
testing on the iPad as soon as it is available.
Jobaya has been working on transcoding TV and movie content since October and
