Amazon Scales MySQL for Heavy Traffic

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has added Read Replicas to its Relational Database Service (RDS) to make it easier to scale MySQL deployments to meet the performance demands of high-traffic web applications. Read Replicas lets users create one or more copies of a MySQL Database Instance and an application serve read traffic from the multiple replicas. They can create or delete replicas in minutes using the point-and-click interface of the AWS Management Console. Amazon says Read Replicas can be made to another Availability Zone as a disaster-ready failover measure under its Multi-AZ deployments program. Once a Read Replica is created, any subsequent updates to the source will automatically be replicated in the Read Replica. The Disruptor Framework: A Concurrency Framework for Java

Let's start with the basic question: What is the disruptor? The disruptor is a concurrency framework for Java that allows data sharing between threads. The age old way of coding a producer-consumer model is to use a queue as the buffer area between the producer and the consumer, where the producer adds data objects to the queue, which are in turn processed by the consumer. However, such a model does not work well at the hardware level and ends up being highly inefficient. The disruptor in its simplest form replaces the queue with a data structure known as the ‘ring buffer'. Which brings us to the next question, what is the ring buffer? The ring buffer is an array of fixed length (which must be a power of 2), it's circular and wraps. This data structure is at the core of what makes the disruptor super fast. What's the Difference Between dataSetRow["FIELD"] and row["FIELD"]

One of the most common questions for people that are new to BIRT is about how to ask data from the DataSet in the report.  The question is when building expressions should I use dataSetRow["FIELD"] or row["FIELD"]? So let me see if I can set the record straight.  When data is acquired, it is acquired by a DataSet, so the following query in a JDBC DataSet will create a three field resultset: select CITY, STATE, COUNTRY from CUSTOMERS Any script or expressions written on the DataSet will be written to use the format row["FIELD_NAME"]; So if we add a computed column to the DataSet called compCityState, the expression would look like this. Once a computed column is created, you can reference that computed column using the same row syntax.  So in the OnFetch method you could add this message to log the value of the computed column.
