What Is the Future of Multi-Cloud Computing?
By Stephanie Rowan
Like so many other IT solutions, cloud computing services have long been
promoted from a standpoint of administrative efficiency. As the rationale
goes, if you get your cloud services from a single provider, you'll enjoy the
reduced hassle of consolidating third party business relationships, receive
IT services at bargain prices, and have an easier time coordinating those
services.
It's true that using fewer service providers can offer some nice perks, but
cloud computing is moving in the opposite direction at many companies.
Instead of reaping the benefits of placing cloud services under one umbrella,
businesses are mining the advantages of the antithetical approach: receiving
cloud services from multiple providers - a discipline known as "multi-cloud
computing."
According to a mid-2016 report from Bu... (more)

Big Data and IoT: The Economic Benefits
In his session at @ThingsExpo, Dr. Robert Cohen, an economist and senior
fellow at the Economic Strategy Institute, presented the findings of a series
of six detailed case studies of how large corporations are implementing IoT.
Download Slide Deck: ▸ Here
The session explored how IoT has improved their economic performance, had
major impacts on business models and resulted in impressive ROIs. The
companies covered span manufacturing and services firms. He also explored
servicification, how manufacturing firms shift from selling a product to
offering it as a service and discussed methods you can employ to estimate how
investing in IoT will affect your firm.

Two apparently distinct movements are in the process of disrupting the world
of enterprise application development: DevOps and Low-Code.
DevOps is a cultural and organizational shift that empowers enterprise
software teams to deliver better software quicker - in particular, hand-coded
software.
Low-Code platforms, in contrast, provide a technology platform and visual
tooling that empower enterprise software teams to deliver better software
quicker - with little or no hand-coding required.
Two disruptive approaches with remarkably similar value propositions. Except
that one emphasizes hand-coding while the other replaces it.
The obvious question: are we in for some kind of appdev battle to the death,
as the two disparate approaches fight for supremacy?
Or are we somehow setting ourselves up for a delightful Kumbaya moment, where
DevOps and Low-Code live together, hap... (more)
Data Mobility: Embracing Hybrid Cloud with Confidence
Leading companies, from the Global Fortune 500 to the smallest companies, are
adopting hybrid cloud as the path to business advantage. Hybrid cloud depends
on cloud services and on-premises infrastructure working in unison.
Successful implementations require new levels of data mobility, enabled by an
automated and seamless flow across on-premises and cloud resources.
In his general session at 21st Cloud Expo, Greg Tevis, an IBM Storage
Software Technical Strategist and Customer Solution Architect, will explore
how storage and software-defined solutions from IBM have evolved for the road
ahead. Walk-away knowing how you can bring new levels of speed, agility and
efficiency to the applications and workloads you choose to deploy across a
hybrid cloud model.

DevOps Evolution: Architecting the Modern Software Factory
Translating agile methodology into real-world best practices within the
modern software factory has driven widespread DevOps adoption, yet much work
remains to expand workflows and tooling across the enterprise.
As models evolve from pockets of experimentation into wholescale
organizational reinvention, practitioners find themselves challenged to
incorporate the culture and architecture necessary to support DevOps at
scale.
In his session at @DevOpsSummit at 21st Cloud Expo, Anand Akela, Senior
Director, DevOps Solutions, at CA Technologies, will discuss how existing
adopters are employing unified agile and DevOps techniques to engage
functional processes and toolchains that deliver increased software quality,
faster time to market and measurably improved customer experience. Specific

Optimize TCP to Speed Through the Digital Freeway
By Dhanush Suhas
TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) is a common and reliable transmission
protocol on the Internet. TCP was introduced in the 70s by Stanford
University for US Defense to establish connectivity between distributed
systems to maintain a backup of defense information. At the time, TCP was
introduced to communicate amongst a selected set of devices for a smaller
dataset over shorter distances.
As the Internet evolved, however, the number of applications and users, and
the types of data accessed and stored also evolved. The original intent of
TCP was to communicate data in the form of text across computers; today’s
data transfer is more complex including high pixel images, audio files, and
video delivery.
The aim of the modern web is to provide consumers with an excellent user

Build or Buy Is Passe - The Low Code Revolution Is Here to Stay
The year 2017 so far has been the year of digital transformation with cloud,
IoT, APIs and low-code application development gaining focus. Companies that
build Low Code Platforms and help organizations build business applications
are beginning to see these technologies scale up. The low-code platform
market is expected to scale up to $20B by the end of the decade, says
Forrester. So since a lot of business enterprises across the globe have
been talking about this low code revolution we will delve deep into the
realms of this application development methodology and its role in digital
transformation.
Let’s look at some of the common queries that surround low-code platforms
and their usability.
How are low-code platforms solving enterprise IT challenges and help in
ushering digital transformation? Wha... (more)
Snowflakes are beautiful, unique creations. But, let's keep them in nature.
They don't belong in our server infrastructure. Snowflake servers, where
every configuration is just a little different, can introduce unnecessary
security vulnerabilities and complications. While common in IT
infrastructure, in the DevOps realm they are gradually becoming ancient
history.
At All Day DevOps 2016, Erlend Oftedal (@webtonull), with Blank and head of

practices within serverless architectures. Erlend walked us through the
positive effects on security as well as offered insight on potential
problems.
Erlend outlined the progress from physical servers to immutable servers,
discussing the benefits of each step and the concerns that lead to the next
phase, ending with immutable servers - that is, they can... (more)
APIs Need to Be Released Too!
By Ron Gidron
Since joining CA, we have been diligently weaving automation into the very
core of the modern software factory. The modern software factory is what
every company needs to become in order to succeed in the digital world and in
this blog, I want to discuss API management and continuous delivery.
Digital transformation is sweeping the IT world, across all industry sectors.
As all vendors, old and new, big and small, incumbent and disruptor, fight it
out in the digital battlefield, a new set of priorities is being created for
the business and IT. These priorities revolve around four key capabilities:
Accelerating mobile and IoT development Unlocking the value of data Creating
new revenue streams through innovation and integration Using hybrid and cloud
technologies to return savings to the business

Integration Is the Key to Gain More Value from NetSuite and Salesforce
Enterprises often face challenges when integrating Salesforce and NetSuite.
But, despite the fact that NetSuite offers an out-of-the-box solution to

complex even for a simple integration.
NetSuite is highly popular among enterprise customers for its accounting,
financial and ERP toolkit. Even though it has fully functional CRM module,
Salesforce is considered to be perfect blend in cloud-based CRM solution.
Alternatively, some Salesforce users feel like it lacks the ERP, Accounting,
Financial solution capabilities which NetSuite delivers.

This is equally true in the world of APIs. Developers are more likely to adopt and stick with a platform or service that they enjoy using. The key to the success of your API, then, is the Developer Experience.
Much like for products that target traditional consumers, the usability of your API is key. Thus, the Developer Experience is the aggregate of all experiences a developer has while in...
