I am always being told off by i-technologists for quoting Picasso as having
said that computers are useless. But I still love his reasoning? "Because
they can only give you answers."
Picasso, like AJAXWorld Magazine, liked questions. So we thought we would
share with you what some of the world's leading rich Internet application
pioneers are thinking may be the next questions that we need to see answered.
From that readers can themselves infer where AJAX is headed.
What are the top questions to ask next about AJAX?
Eric Miraglia of Yahoo!
1. (From March'08) How do I calculate the ROI of building my RIA on the
iPhone SDK vs using AJAX?
2. How do I assess the performance of my app and decide what to do next to
make it faster?
3. When it comes to accessibility, how do I know what's required of me for
my rich web apps? Beyond what's required, what makes good business se... (more)
“Is it possible to run the AppDynamics controller within my own Microsoft
Azure IaaS?”
I hear this question fairly regularly and would like to walk you through how
to host the controller in your own Azure cloud. First off, the pros of having
AppDynamics with Azure:
Have full control and ownership of the data collected by AppDynamics Provide
additional security to access the data (for example, lock it down to a
corporate VPN only). Enable easy integration between AppDynamics and your
services, such as Active Directory for authentication or internal bug
tracking system for alert notifications. These would typically require
opening custom ports when you leverage the AppDynamics SaaS environment.
AppDynamics works by placing an agent running on your servers which reports
to the controller. It’s common to have several agents monitoring your
applications. To further the ea... (more)
I have not blogged much about what I work with or do and that's on purpose.
Sometimes I am not allowed to tell and mostly I think you would not find it
interesting. However, I wanna share with you from Qt Developer Days #qtdd09
in Munich, which was an amazing event.
Not only is Qt a decent Developer tool for making desktop apps, but joining
forces with Nokia, ex-Trolltech is getting far more traction as well. As a
result of last week's devdays but also beta-release of Qt 4.6, one of my
favorite online newsletter had this article last week.
But being at DevDays Europe is an amazing experience. Third year now for me
and it keeps blowing my mind off. This year an amazing 660 delegates + the
80+ Nokians that attended/helped out.
The DevDays often comes with some new stuff. This year, the former
Trolltech cheif engineer, Matthias Ettrich, launched QML in his ... (more)
Yesterday, Microsoft released another update to the Windows Azure SDK. This
update includes a truckload of new goodies that I will be covering in
additional blog posts. For this blog post, however, I want to walk you
through getting an ASP.NET MVC 2 application working on Windows Azure in
Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2. Now that Azure and VS2010 are finally starting to
sync up, the amount of raw goodness coming out of Redmond cannot be measured.
First, install the Windows Azure SDK and the Windows Azure Tools for Visual
Studio, making sure you pay attention to all of the installation details.
There are lots of little hotfixes and things that you might need. Luckily, if
you're running VS2010 Beta 2 on Windows 7, you have very little extra work to
do beyond configuring IIS 7 for WCF HTTP activation.
Once you've got that installed, create a new project. The project template ... (more)

In Windows Server 2012 we introduced a new version called Windows Server 2012
Essentials edition. The Essentials server is very flexible and
easy-to-use. This was a server solution that was primarily designed and
priced for small businesses with up to 25 users and 50 devices. This
provided a great first server for many customers, as well as it can be used
as the primary server in a multi-server environment for small businesses.
With the new Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials Server we really added many
features to make this an even more rounded server. The Essential server
also provides a ton of flexibly for deployment and functionality. We even
included the popular client computer backup from Windows Home server. The
Windows Server Essentials Experience role is available in Windows Server 2012
R2 Standard and Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter.

2014 State of Readiness for Windows 2003 End of Support: Poll Results
Most IT administrators are painfully aware that Windows Server 2003 will
reach the end of extended support in July 2015. This is a big deal because
Windows Server 2003 has been a monster success since it was released 11 years
ago. From 2003 to 2010 this platform was the workhorse for applications
deployed at both small businesses and large enterprises. And, even though
Microsoft released a major update with Windows 2008, late in 2008, most
enterprises stuck with Windows 2003 until Windows Server 2008 R2 launched on
October 22, 2009.
The newest Windows Server platform is 2012, R2 and little is publicly known
about the number of production instances. As of the summer of 2014 however,
it was widely reported that Microsoft believed there to be 22+ million
Windows 2003 Servers still running productio... (more)

In ASP.NET 2.0, we introduced a very powerful set of application services in
ASP.NET (Membership, Roles and profile). In 3.5 we created a client library
for accessing them from Ajax and .NET Clients and exposed them via WCF web
services. For more information on the base level ASP.NET appservices
that this walk through is based on, please see Stefan Schackow's excellent
book Professional ASP.NET 2.0 Security, Membership, and Role Management.
In this tutorial I will walk you through how to access the WCF application
services from a directly from the Silverlight client. This works super well
if you have a site that is already using the ASP.NET application services and
you just need to access them from a Silverlight client. (Special thanks
to Helen for a good chunk of this implantation)
