Maslow's Hierarchy of Digital Experience Needs
By Dawn Parzych
In 1943, a psychology theory was introduced by Abraham Maslow outlining a
hierarchy of needs. The hierarchy describes the stages of growth, starting
with basic survival needs and moving onto more complex needs. If basic needs
are not met, higher-level needs will not be attainable and individuals will
feel anxious and tense.
The needs are:
Physiological: These are basic physical needs for survival such as
breathing, food, water.
Safety: The ability to meet tomorrow’s needs and include personal and
financial security, health and well-being, law and order.
Love and Belonging : The need to feel like you belong and are accepted.
Esteem: The need to feel respected by yourself and others.
Self-actualization: Once all other needs are met, only then can individuals
fulfill their maximum personal potential.

The World's Many IoTs: Which Are the Most Important?
The Internet of Things is clearly many things: data collection and analytics,
wearables, Smart Grids and Smart Cities, the Industrial Internet, and more.
Cool platforms like Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Intel's Galileo and Edison, and a
diverse world of sensors are making the IoT a great toy box for developers in
all these areas.
In this Power Panel at @ThingsExpo, moderated by Conference Chair Roger
Strukhoff, panelists discussed what things are the most important, which will
have the most profound effect on the world, and what should we expect to see
over the next couple of years.

The widespread success of cloud computing is driving the DevOps revolution in
enterprise IT. Now as never before, development teams must communicate and
collaborate in a dynamic, 24/7/365 environment. There is no time to wait for
long development cycles that produce software that is obsolete at launch.
DevOps may be disruptive, but it is essential.

The App's Eye View of 2017
By Christine Cignoli
Our outlook for the year in technology is pretty rosy. Businesses of all
stripes are getting more agile and more cloud-savvy. They're using SaaS apps
and cloud services for all kinds of workloads, discovering new capabilities
as cloud technology matures. IT teams are looking at the big picture to help
users have better experiences. We hear from customers that they're working on
modernizing their networks and getting control and visibility of their
infrastructure, wherever it's deployed. It's all part of how IT is adapting
to a new cloud world as their role changes to keep up.
We're excited to see what the year ahead brings in the tech world. One thing
we're positive about is that there won't be a dull moment in IT. Here are
some of the trends in our areas that our experts here are keeping an eye on.

We Can Work IT Out: The In-House IT and MSP Dynamic
In-house IT professionals and managed service providers (MSPs) have had an
interesting relationship over the course of IT history. Yes, they are vastly
different, but if we drew a Venn diagram of IT and the MSP, the intersection
of the two is worth exploring, particularly regarding how IT professionals
can best manage their MSPs and work harmoniously to advance the common goal
of IT performance.
For IT professionals, the very utterance of the acronym "MSP" may conjure
feelings of skepticism and fearing the reaper, which doesn't need to be the
case. MSPs don't always equal outsourcing IT in its entirety. Let's explore
common scenarios where in-house IT professionals and MSPs work together,
because in these cases, in-house IT professionals need to understand how to
get the most out of these relationships and up-level... (more)

architectural principles behind implementing IoT solutions for the
enterprise. As remote IoT devices and sensors become increasingly
intelligent, they become part of our distributed cloud environment, and we
must architect and code accordingly. At the very least, you'll have no
problem filling in your buzzword bingo cards.

Guest post by Intellyx Principal Analyst Charles Araujo
Once again, we find ourselves at the dawn of a new year.
And many would say, not a moment too soon. With a series of tumultuous
elections around the world and an unusual number of celebrity passings, it's
been a rough year.
But there is at least one bright spot from 2016: Intellyx's digital

The Top 5 2016 Trends That Are Changing Software Development
By Omed Habib
Software development is a moving target. You have to keep your eye on trends
in the tech space that haven’t even happened yet just to stay current.
Consider what’s happened with augmented reality (AR) in this year alone. If
you said you were working on an AR app in 2015, you might have gotten a lot
of blank stares or jokes about Google Glass. Then Pokémon GO happened. Like
AR, the trends listed below have been building steam for some time, but
they’ll be taking off in surprising new directions before the end of 2016.
Here’s an overview of what’s coming next and what software developers can
do to prepare for it.
1. Linking Application Performance and Business Performance

over the past decade. By 2010, Gartner had define... (more)

Cognitive Business: When Cloud and Cognitive Computing Merge
Cloud computing has taken over the business world! With almost maniacal
focus, single proprietors and Board Directors of the world's largest
conglomerates see this new model as a "must do". This rapid shift is, in
fact, accelerating. As Jeff Bertolucci observes in "The Shift to Cloud
Services Is Happening Faster Than Expected":
"According to the sixth annual Uptime Institute Data Center Industry Survey,
which examines the big-picture trends shaping IT infrastructure delivery and
strategy, the move to cloud services is accelerating. The Uptime Institute's
February 2016 poll of more than 1,000 data center and IT professionals
predicts that an even faster shift to the cloud will occur over the next four
years, reports ZDNet."
