WebRTC Beyond Audio and Video
WebRTC is about the data channel as much as about video and audio conferencing. However, basically all commercial WebRTC applications have been built with a focus on audio and video. The handling of "data" has been limited to text chat and file download - all other data sharing seems to end with screensharing. What is holding back a more intensive use of peer-to-peer data?
In her session at @ThingsExpo, Dr Silvia Pfeiffer, WebRTC Applications Team Lead at National ICT Australia, looked at different existing uses of peer-to-peer data sharing and how it can become useful in a live session to enable richer collaboration using WebRTC and HTML5.

Speaker Bio
Dr Silvia Pfeiffer is WebRTC Applications Team Lead at National ICT Australia, where she manages the invention, implementation, user testing, and deployment of new WebRTC applications. This team publishes the open source http://rtc.io/ node modules and is preparing a WebRTC spin-in called Coviu.
Silvia has been heavily involved in the W3C Web standards work during her time at Google and at Mozilla. She is also the author of "The Definitive Guide to HTML5 Video" and "Beginning HTML5 Media."

The United States spends around 17-18% of its GDP on healthcare every year. Translated into dollars, it is a mind-boggling $2.9 trillion. Unfortunately, that spending will grow at a faster rate now due to baby boomers becoming an aging population, and they are the largest demographic in the U.S. Unless the U.S. gets this spiraling healthcare spending under control, in a few short years we will be spending almost 25% of our entire GDP in healthcare trying to fix people’s failing health, instead of spending it somewhere else where it is desperately needed. Obviously, we can’t stop the aging popu...
The buzz continues for cloud, data analytics and the Internet of Things (IoT) and their collective impact across all industries. But a new conversation is emerging - how do companies use industry disruption and technology enablers to lead in markets undergoing change, uncertainty and ambiguity? In this new data-driven world, marketplaces reign supreme while interoperability, APIs and applications deliver un...
Mobile apps and data collection go hand in glove. Mobile devices are powerful sensor platforms that are never more than 2 meters away from their owners 24 hours a day. These sensor platforms and the data collected from them are golden to mobile commerce vendors and digital marketers, and for that reason every business wants a mobile app. The challenge, however, is not every product or brand justifies an app.

As utility companies continue to track usage, consumers are growing equally cognizant of individual energy use as well, especially with the growth of private alternative energy practices such as home solar panels or wind power. That's why this week's IIoT top news is focused on the utility technology of tomorrow. This practice of selling privately generated energy back to the smart grid is in its infancy, but consumers now expect device connectivity to track, say, the amount of energy used by lights or the refrigerator during nighttime, off-peak hours. Because of that, the onus lies on utility...

The discussion is moderated by me, Dana Gardner, Principal Analyst at Interarbor Solutions.
While the Internet of Things (IoT) being condemned by Gartner in August as one of the world’s most overhyped technology trends of 2015 makes a good headline, this assertion is itself misleading by failing to acknowledge the rapid progress now being made as IoT emerges in clusters to deliver real benefits to users, even if these are still early days. However, Gartner was correct that the full promise of IoT as a joined up ecosystem of interoperable components is indeed five to ten years away.
Push Intelligence helps you move beyond dashboards and reports and deliver on the promise of Business Intelligence (BI). It weeds out redundant and irrelevant information to deliver timely, relevant insights when and where you need them. Push intelligence enables you to focus on what’s most important, then collaborate with others to act on what needs to be fixed.

Ask anyone who is working with data “What is your biggest challenge?” The answer most of the time is “the inability to use our data fully.” This and similar statements signify one common thread of pain. With data growing at 44% over the next 10 years, it goes without saying that your business is going to be inundated with data from all sides. With “making a profit” on the minds of over 35% of SMB survey respondents, it goes without saying that the challenge is multi-fold with being able to sustain the business and ensure profitability being prime.
