When Configuration Settings from Development Wreak Havoc in Production

As applications are promoted from the development environment to the CI or
the QA environment and then into the production environment, it is very
common for the configuration settings to be changed as the code is promoted.
For example, the settings for the database connection pools are typically
lower in development environment than the QA/Load Testing environment. The
primary reason for the existence of the configuration setting differences is
to enhance application performance. However, occasionally there are instances
where the application code is mistakenly promoted into production without
changing these settings. In such cases, such promotion of code can cause
performance havoc in the production environment. This blog describes one such

Cloud computing is being adopted in one form or another by 94% of enterprises
today. Tens of billions of new devices are being connected to The Internet of
Things.
And Big Data is driving this bus. An exponential increase is expected in the
amount of information being processed, managed, analyzed, and acted upon by

As cloud computing becomes the information technology mainstream, data center technology is accelerating at a breakneck speed. Concepts like software define infrastructure, data center analytics and Nonvolatile Memory Express (NVMe) over Fabrics are changing the very nature of data center management. According to industry research firm IDC, organizations will spend an additional $142.8 billion oninfrastructure for both public and private cloud environments in the next three years (2016-2018) to boost efficiency and business agility.
There was a time, in the 1990s, when Silicon Valley and Redmond thought Washington DC didn’t matter. Top executives would occasionally appear in front of Congress to inveigh mostly against one another, then quickly return home to resume making money. The notion that clueless DC regulators and legislators mattered was ridiculed when it wasn’t ignored.
As cloud computing simultaneously transforms multiple industries many have wondered about how this trend will affect manufacturing. Often characterized as “staid”, this vertical is not often cited when leading edge technological change is the topic. This view, however, fails to address the revolutionary nexus of cloud computing and the manufacturing industry. Referred to as Digital Thread and Digital Twin; these cloud driven concepts are now driving this vertical’s future.
The IoT continued its toddler-like growth and stumbles in 2016. Here are five trends to look for in 2017 as the IoT enters its adolescence and how to benefit from them.
1. Ecosystems begin to determine winners and losers
Previously these were nice in-the-future concerns; now they will really count. Filling out a whole product value proposition through partnerships has repeatedly proven its importance across B2B and enterprise software sectors. In the IoT, they will be even more critical.
IT leaders face a monumental challenge. They must figure out how to sort through the cacophony of new technologies, buzzwords, and industry hype to find the right digital path forward for their organizations. And they simply cannot afford to fail. Those organizations that are fastest to the right digital path will be the ones that win. The path forward, however, is strewn with the legacy of decisions made long ago — often before any of the current leadership team assumed their roles. As we enter the final week before the 19th International Cloud Expo | @ThingsExpo in Santa Clara, CA, it's time for me to reflect on six big topics that will be important during the show.
Hybrid Cloud
This general-purpose term seems to provide a comfort zone for many enterprise IT managers. It sounds reassuring to be able to work with one of the major public-cloud providers like AWS or Microsoft Azure while still maintaining an on-site presence.
Logs are continuous digital records of events generated by all components of your software stack – and they’re everywhere – your networks, servers, applications, containers and cloud infrastructure just to name a few. The data logs provide are like an X-ray for your IT infrastructure. Without logs, this lack of visibility creates operational challenges for managing modern applications that drive today’s digital businesses.
As the industry matures, cloud computing will increasingly rely on interoperability in order to grow and deliver more value to industry. Assuming this is a fact, what does it mean when eighteen major OpenStack vendors come together to work through the challenges involved with achieving enterprise interoperability? 
Information technology is an industry that has always experienced change, and the dramatic change sweeping across the industry today could not be truthfully described as the first time we've seen such widespread change impacting customer investments. However, the rate of the change, and the potential outcomes from today's digital transformation has the distinct potential to separate the industry into two camps: Organizations that see the change coming, embrace it, and successful leverage it; and on the other side, organizations that will find themselves as roadkill on the technology highway.
