The Future of IoT through Location-Based Services
Connected devices and the industrial internet are growing exponentially every
year with Cisco expecting 50 billion devices to be in operation by 2020. In
this period of growth, location-based insights are becoming invaluable to
many businesses as they adopt new connected technologies. Knowing when and
where these devices connect from is critical for a number of scenarios in
supply chain management, disaster management, emergency response, M2M,
location marketing and more.
In his session at @ThingsExpo, Mario Proietti, CEO of LocationSmart,
discussed how Internet connectivity enables location-based services to take
advantage of everything available on the World Wide Web and how this data
helps expand the possibilities for how we communicate, collaborate and
commute.

Sensor Analytics Ecosystems, Fulfilling the IoT Potential
The Internet of Things (IoT), in all its myriad manifestations, has great
potential. Much of that potential comes from the evolving data management and
analytic (DMA) technologies and processes that allow us to gain insight from
all of the IoT data that can be generated and gathered. This potential may
never be met as those data sets are tied to specific industry verticals and
single markets, with no clear way to use IoT data and sensor analytics to
fulfill the hype being given the IoT today.
More important are the solution spaces that can only be addressed through the
convergence of the IoT with DMA. These solution spaces are being defined by
cultural, regulatory, environmental, political and economic factors.

Container Monitoring: Top Docker Metrics to Watch
By Stefan Thies
Monitoring of Docker environments is challenging. Why? Because each container
typically runs a single process, has its own environment, utilizes virtual
networks, or has various methods of managing storage. Traditional monitoring
solutions take metrics from each server and applications they run. These
servers and applications running on them are typically very static, with very
long uptimes. Docker deployments are different: a set of containers may run
many applications, all sharing the resources of one or more underlying hosts.
It's not uncommon for Docker servers to run thousands of short-term
containers (e.g., for batch jobs) while a set of permanent services runs in
parallel. Traditional monitoring tools not used to such dynamic environments
are not suited for such deployments. On the other hand, s... (more)

The Internet of Things (IoT) is the most profound change in personal and
enterprise IT since the creation of the Worldwide Web more than 20 years ago.
All major researchers estimate there will be tens of billions devices -
computers, smartphones, tablets, and sensors - connected to the Internet by

Is American E-Commerce About to Be Caught Napping with Payment Methods
With a slow-growing domestic market and their own consumers increasingly
shopping cross border, US e-commerce sites are starting to realize they need
to compete globally. But are they ready for it? And are their payment service
providers?
A.T Kearney´s "2015 Global Retail E-Commerce Index Report "put it in a
nutshell: with the global explosion of e-commerce, being able to effectively
sell across borders is going to be a key differentiator between the next
round of online-retail winners and losers. By being good at selling across
borders, the winners will be able to expand into new markets without the cost
of having a physical footprint in those markets(1). This will give them the
competitive edge over rivals still locked into just their domestic markets.
The challenge this poses is especially rele... (more)
@GonzalezCarmen has been ranked the Number One Influencer and @ThingsExpo has
been named the Number One Brand in the "M2M 2016: Top 100 Influencers and
Brands" by Onalytica.
Onalytica analyzed tweets over the last 6 months mentioning the keywords M2M
OR "Machine to Machine." They then identified the top 100 most influential
brands and individuals leading the discussion on Twitter.
Machine to Machine (M2M) refers to direct communication between devices using
any communications channel, including wired and wireless. The M2M market is
undergoing a fast transformation as enterprises are increasingly realizing
the value of connecting geographically dispersed people, devices, sensors and
machines to corporate networks. Today, industries such as healthcare,
automotive, oil and gas, precision agriculture, military, government, smart

ThingsExpo Named World's Most Influential M2M Media Brand
@ThingsExpo has been named the Top 5 Most Influential M2M Brand by Onalytica
in the ‘Machine to Machine: Top 100 Influencers and Brands.' Onalytica
analyzed the online debate on M2M by looking at over 85,000 tweets to provide
the most influential individuals and brands that drive the discussion.
According to Onalytica the "analysis showed a very engaged community with a
lot of interactive tweets.
The M2M discussion seems to be more fragmented and driven by some of the
major brands present in the M2M space.
This really allows some room for influential individuals to create more high
value interactions amongst community members."
@ThingsExpo ranked as the 5th "Most Influential" #M2M Brand in the World" and
the most influential M2M media brand, followed by @CloudExpo at 41st, and

Between 2005 and 2020, data volumes will grow by a factor of 300 - enough
data to stack CDs from the earth to the moon 162 times. This has come to be
known as the ‘Big Data' phenomenon. Unfortunately, traditional approaches
to handling, storing and analyzing data aren't adequate at this scale:
they're too costly, slow and physically cumbersome to keep up. Fortunately,
in response a new breed of technology has emerged that is cheaper, faster and
more scalable. Yet, in meeting these new needs they break many of the
traditional security approaches on which enterprises depended. In these
massive data volumes, how are organizations going to ensure that their
customer information is safe from people looking to exploit it? Is it
possible to adopt Big Data technologies while demonstrating compliance with
industry regulations? Will security get i... (more)

@CloudExpo Stories By Liz McMillan All clouds are not equal. To succeed in a DevOps context, organizations should plan to develop/deploy apps across a choice of on-premise and public clouds simultaneously depending on the business needs. This is where the concept of the Lean Cloud comes in - resting on the idea that you often need to relocate your app modules over their life cycles for both innovation and operational efficiency in the cloud.
