New Solutions in Transportation Span All Five Cs in the IoT Maturity Model
In past @ThingsExpo presentations, Joseph di Paolantonio has explored how
various Internet of Things ( IoT) and data management and analytics (DMA)
solution spaces will come together as sensor analytics ecosystems.
This year, in his session at @ThingsExpo, Joseph di Paolantonio from
DataArchon, will be adding the numerous Transportation areas, from autonomous
vehicles to "Uber for containers." While IoT data in any one area of
Transportation will have a huge impact in that area, combining sensor
analytics from these different areas will impact government, industry, retail
and other processes, as well as life-style choices.
These changes to transportation are happening now, but at varying maturity
levels as we advance along a model of Connect, Communicate, Collaborate,
Contextualize and Cognit... (more)

This is a short blog with a harsh message for Big Data vendors.
Camera fades in to Pastor Schmarzo heading to the pulpit…
What does the future hold for today’s Big Data vendors? Hundreds of
startups are rushing into the Big Data market to stake their claim to a
market that IDC predicts will reach $187 billion by 2019. Dang, that’s a
big market, especially considering that the Global Business Intelligence
market will only reach a trifling $20.8 billion by 2018 or the long-running
ERP applications market is expected to reach a trivial $84.1 billion by
2020. Yes, the big data mar... (more)
The Internet of Things (IoT) and Analytics at The Edge
The Internet of Things (IoT) promises to change everything by enabling
“smart” environments (homes, cities, hospitals, schools, stores, etc.)
and smart products (cars, trucks, airplanes, trains, wind turbines,
lawnmowers, etc.). I recently wrote about the importance of moving beyond
“connected” to “smart” in a blog titled “Internet of Things:
Connected Does Not Equal Smart”. The article discusses the importance of
moving beyond just collecting the data, to transitioning to leveraging this
new wealth of IoT data to improve th... (more)

Surviving the Three Ages of Digital Transformation
When digital laggards finally recognize the degree of market disruption being
caused by the rapid adoption of digital technologies, and desperately try to
outrun the inescapable Darwinian effect of their slow response, they will be
faced with not one, but three ages of digital transformation to navigate and
survive. Understanding these ages, and what is unique about each one, is
critical for business strategy, prioritizing, planning, sequencing and
budgeting.
Today, we live and work in the Age of Disruptive Transformation.

@BigDataExpo Stories By Elizabeth White Amazon has gradually rolled out parts of its IoT offerings, but these are just the tip of the iceberg. In addition to optimizing their backend AWS offerings, Amazon is laying the ground work to be a major force in IoT - especially in the connected home and office.
In his session at @ThingsExpo, Chris Kocher, founder and managing director of Grey Heron, explained how Amazon is extending its reach to become a major force in IoT by building on its dominant cloud IoT platform, its Dash Button strat... Oct. 23, 2016 06:30 AM EDT Reads: 4,734 | By Andreas Grabner DevOps is speeding towards the IT world like a freight train and the hype around it is deafening. There is no reason to be afraid of this change as it is the natural reaction to the agile movement that revolutionized development just a few years ago. By definition, DevOps is the natural alignment of IT performance to business profitability. The relevance of this has yet to be quantified but it has been suggested that the route to the CEO’s chair will come from the IT leaders that successfully ma... Oct. 23, 2016 06:00 AM EDT Reads: 671 | By Pat Romanski A critical component of any IoT project is what to do with all the data being generated. This data needs to be captured, processed, structured, and stored in a way to facilitate different kinds of queries. Traditional data warehouse and analytical systems are mature technologies that can be used to handle certain kinds of queries, but they are not always well suited to many problems, particularly when there is a need for real-time insights. Oct. 23, 2016 05:30 AM EDT Reads: 3,919 | By Elizabeth White DevOps is being widely accepted (if not fully adopted) as essential in enterprise IT. But as Enterprise DevOps gains maturity, expands scope, and increases velocity, the need for data-driven decisions across teams becomes more acute. DevOps teams in any modern business must wrangle the ‘digital exhaust’ from the delivery toolchain, "pervasive" and "cognitive" computing, APIs and services, mobile devices and applications, the Internet of Things, and now even blockchain.

Oct. 23, 2016 12:45 AM EDT Reads: 3,551 | By Liz McMillan The Internet of Things (IoT), in all its myriad manifestations, has great potential. Much of that potential comes from the evolving data management and analytic (DMA) technologies and processes that allow us to gain insight from all of the IoT data that can be generated and gathered.
