Storage Analytics Engines in Cloud and Heterogeneous Environments
Predictive analytics tools monitor, report, and troubleshoot in order to make proactive decisions about the health, performance, and utilization of storage. Most enterprises combine cloud and on-premise storage, resulting in blended environments of physical, virtual, cloud, and other platforms, which justifies more sophisticated storage analytics.

By Elizabeth White Regulatory requirements exist to promote the controlled sharing of information, while protecting the privacy and/or security of the information. Regulations for each type of information have their own set of rules, policies, and guidelines. Cloud Service Providers (CSP) are faced with increasing demand for services at decreasing prices. By Elizabeth White If you’re responsible for an application that depends on the data or functionality of various IoT endpoints – either sensors or devices – your brand reputation depends on the security, reliability, and compliance of its many integrated parts. If your application fails to deliver the expected business results, your customers and partners won't care if that failure stems from the code you developed or from a component that you integrated. What can you do to ensure that the endpoints work as expect...Sep. 12, 2016 08:45 AM EDT Reads: 857 |

Just as writing has come to mean texting, blogging or any form of digital writing, the cloud today means one or all of the three Cs: computing, connectivity and communication. And just as nearly all thought to putting pen to paper has disappeared, all reference to the natural cloud is long forgotten. The three Cs have altered the way we consume services. The adage, “change is the only constant,” holds true in the IT landscape like no other, forcing IT admins to constantly learn new skills and make strategic decisions.
Adopting storage innovation protects the Nebraska Medical Center from data disruption and adds operational simplicity to complex data lifecycle management.
To describe how more than 150 terabytes of data remain safe and sound, we're joined by Jeff Bergholz, Manager of Technical Systems at The Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. The discussion is moderated by BriefingsDirect's Dana Gardner, Principal Analyst at Interarbor Solutions.
This is a short blog with a harsh message for Big Data vendors.
Camera fades in to Pastor Schmarzo heading to the pulpit…
What does the future hold for today’s big data vendors? Hundreds of startups are rushing into the big data market to stake their claim to a market that IDC predicts will reach $187 billion by 2019. Dang, that’s a big market, especially considering that the Global Business Intelligence market will only reach a trifling $20.8 billion by 2018 or the long-running ERP applications market is expected to reach a trivial $84.1 billion by 2020. Yes, the big data market opportu...
Welcome to the latest installment in the battle of two tech titans. Last week Alphabet announced that Nest is being merged into Google. See Fortune’s summary: Google Will Absorb Nest Developers.
This is the denouement to the saga that started in April, tied to infighting between the Google and Nest teams. I dissected this “silo-itis” in Why #Nest is Down, #Amazon Up, in #IoT for the #Connected Home.
Now some unsurprising new developments since Tony Fadell, the CEO of Nest, resigned in June. Here’s what Google is trying to achieve by “re-absorbing” the troubled Nest group.
Organizations have key business processes that they are constantly trying to re-engineer. These key business processes – loan approvals, college applications, mortgage underwriting, product and component testing, credit applications, medical reviews, employee hiring, environmental testing, requests for proposals, contract bidding, etc. – go through multiple steps, usually involving multiple people with different skill sets, with a business outcome at the end (accept/reject, bid/no bid, pass/fail, retest, reapply, etc.). And while these processes typically include “analytics” that report on ho...
Many IT organizations look to the private cloud to improve agility and simplify business operations. More and more are introducing converged and hyperconverged infrastructure solutions to support cloud initiatives and agile development practices. But there is too often a road block — legacy data center networks.
Private clouds require a new multipurpose data center network to support diverse applications and workloads without sacrificing performance or service quality. Fully programmable and highly adaptable, the next-generation network easily integrates with service orchestration tools and...
With all the excellent training available on television today, we are all now well prepared to deal with the coming Zombie Apocalypse. Our failure as a society lies, however, in our misunderstanding of the nature of the cybersecurity challenge. This failure threatens us all and our survival will depend on society’s ability to deal with the evolution and maturation of the changing enterprise cybersecurity challenge.
If you’re completely oblivious to the living dead threat, a zombie apocalypse refers to a widespread (usually global) rise of zombies hostile to human life. The zombies will en...
The explosion of cloud onto the enterprise scene has, literally, revolutionized how businesses across the size spectrum do business, yet there’s a price tag tucked into this cloud’s silver lining that smart decision-makers should pay heed to.
This is the era of what I like to call the consumerization of enterprise software. It’s bringing tremendous benefit to the business world, but it’s also bringing a great deal of change, particularly to the understanding of how business software adoption and use is done, and enterprises of all sizes need to familiarize themselves with best practices-under...
There are some enterprise applications that were born to be in the cloud. Customer relationship management (CRM) applications were an early favorite because salespeople (the primary consumers of CRM) are decentralized and mobile. Web applications and personal data storage are also ideal cloud applications because they allow enterprises to scale up easily while driving down costs. Enterprises have held on to their communications, however, making it one of the last applications to move into the cloud.
The hype around data breaches in the health industry may seem commonplace and cause complacency. Last year, it was Anthem and Premera Blue Cross suffering attacks affecting nearly 90 million people combined. Among others, last month it was Banner Health – a nationwide health system based in Arizona – which reported a cyberattack affecting 3.7 million patients and customers.
This month the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office for Civil Rights (OCR) levied a $5.5M fine on Advocate Health Care Network, the highest penalty to date on a health care organization having a data breac...
When it comes to IT infrastructure, there are some big differences in the needs of the SMB vs the enterprise. What might be minor hiccups in the enterprise can be major challenges in the SMB. What are these differences and how should they affect the way solutions are provided?
Since its introduction in 2009, Microsoft Azure has gone through a significant transformation. What started as a hardcore set of platform services is now a force to be reckoned within the infrastructure market as well.
According to Gartner, Azure is inching closer to AWS, firmly securing its place in the top right section of the Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) Magic Quadrant, which is reserved only for the market leaders.
It was late 2011 and Steven Donovan was comfortable working at SHI International Corporation, a growing information technology firm, as a personal computer break/fix technician. His company had been growing quickly from a $1 million "software-only" regional re-seller into eventually becoming a $6 billion global provider of information technology products and services.
At that time, cloud computing was just starting to explode onto the information technology scene. Although Amazon Web Services had been offering its Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) since 2006, browser-based enterprise applications f...
While some existing apps allow the Doctors to write using their stylus pen, what is needed is an integrated solution that includes handwriting recognition, voice , face recognition and other cognitive intelligence as part of health care applications.
The age of digital disruption is upon us, as the last decade alone has proven in terms of technology and disruption with the progression of organizations like Uber, Airbnb, and Netflix. We are also on the brink of new disruptions in industry, including banking or payments, insurance, healthcare, construction, packaging, and many more. These not only come from startups disrupting a sector, but companies being able to shift from their existing focus areas to build on new opportunities. They’re driven internally or by creating a new spinoff company into additional areas.
