Deploying applications in hybrid cloud environments is hard work. Your team
spends most of the time maintaining your infrastructure, configuring dev/test
and production environments, and deploying applications across environments -
which can be both time consuming and error prone. But what if you could
automate provisioning and deployment to deliver error free environments
faster? What could you do with your free time?
Join our experts to learn about how IBM UrbanCode Deploy and IBM
PureApplication provide a powerful combination of technologies that
accelerate application deployment from days or weeks to just minutes -
enabling your team to be the hero, not the bottleneck.

Actian Corporation has announced the latest version of the Actian Vector in
Hadoop (VectorH) database, generally available at the end of July. VectorH is
based on the same query engine that powers Actian Vector, which recently
doubled the TPC-H benchmark record for non-clustered systems at the 3000GB
scale factor (see tpc.org/3323).
The ability to easily ingest information from different data sources and
rapidly develop queries to make better business decisions is becoming
increasingly important, particularly for those companies looking to respond

Data has always had a place in politics. Politicians have relied on polls,
voter interests and demographics for years. In 2008, the Obama campaign was
recognized for its data-driven campaign, but it wasn’t until the 2012
election, when the tools became available, that big data was used to target
voters and win a presidential election using methods that had never been used
before.
Much like businesses, political parties have collected a lot of data over the
years, but that data has been siloed into various categories: donations,
website visits, social media comments. While each o... (more)
Imagine my surprise when reading the March 28, 2016 issue of BusinessWeek and
stumbling across the article titled “Lies, Damned Lies, and More
Statistics.” In the article, "BusinessWeek" warned readers to beware of
“p-hacking,” which is the statistical practice of tweaking data in ways
that generate low p-values but actually undermine the test (see p-value
definition below). One of the results of “p-hacking” is that absurd
results can be made to pass the p-value test, and important findings can be
overlooked. For example…

Aug. 12, 2016 04:45 AM EDT Reads: 2,369 | By Elizabeth White Amazon has gradually rolled out parts of its IoT offerings in the last year, but these are just the tip of the iceberg. In addition to optimizing their back-end AWS offerings, Amazon is laying the ground work to be a major force in IoT – especially in the connected home and office.
Amazon is extending its reach by building on its dominant Cloud IoT platform, its Dash Button strategy, recently announced Replenishment Services, the Echo/Alexa voice recognition control platform, the 6-7 strategic... Aug. 12, 2016 02:30 AM EDT Reads: 1,775 | By Liz McMillan Personalization has long been the holy grail of marketing. Simply stated, communicate the most relevant offer to the right person and you will increase sales. To achieve this, you must understand the individual. Consequently, digital marketers developed many ways to gather and leverage customer information to deliver targeted experiences.
In his session at @ThingsExpo, Lou Casal, Founder and Principal Consultant at Practicala, discussed how the Internet of Things (IoT) has accelerated our abil... Aug. 12, 2016 02:00 AM EDT Reads: 1,165 | By Elizabeth White We all know the latest numbers: Gartner, Inc. forecasts that 6.4 billion connected things will be in use worldwide in 2016, up 30 percent from last year, and will reach 20.8 billion by 2020. We're rapidly approaching a data production of 40 zettabytes a day – more than we can every physically store, and exabytes and yottabytes are just around the corner.
For many that’s a good sign, as data has been proven to equal money – IF it’s ingested, integrated, and analyzed fast enough. Without real-ti... Aug. 11, 2016 10:00 PM EDT Reads: 1,802 | By William Schmarzo I wanted to gather all of my Internet of Things (IOT) blogs into a single blog (that I could later use with my University of San Francisco (USF) Big Data “MBA” course). However as I started to pull these blogs together, I realized that my IOT discussion lacked a vision; it lacked an end point towards which an organization could drive their IOT envisioning, proof of value, app dev, data engineering and data science efforts. And I think that the IOT end point is really quite simple… Aug. 11, 2016 09:30 PM EDT Reads: 1,806 | By Pat Romanski "We've discovered that after shows 80% if leads that people get, 80% of the conversations end up on the show floor, meaning people forget about it, people forget who they talk to, people forget that there are actual business opportunities to be had here so we try to help out and keep the conversations going," explained Jeff Mesnik, Founder and President of ContentMX, in this SYS-CON.tv interview at 18th Cloud Expo, held June 7-9, 2016, at the Javits Center in New York City, NY. Aug. 11, 2016 08:30 PM EDT Reads: 1,859 | By Liz McMillan WebRTC is bringing significant change to the communications landscape that will bridge the worlds of web and telephony, making the Internet the new standard for communications. Cloud9 took the road less traveled and used WebRTC to create a downloadable enterprise-grade communications platform that is changing the communication dynamic in the financial sector.
In his session at @ThingsExpo, Leo Papadopoulos, CTO of Cloud9, discussed the importance of WebRTC and how it enables companies to focus... Aug. 11, 2016 03:30 PM EDT Reads: 2,061 | By Elizabeth White With so much going on in this space you could be forgiven for thinking you were always working with yesterday’s technologies. So much change, so quickly. What do you do if you have to build a solution from the ground up that is expected to live in the field for at least 5-10 years?

Aug. 11, 2016 12:00 PM EDT Reads: 611 | By Elizabeth White Today we can collect lots and lots of performance data. We build beautiful dashboards and even have fancy query languages to access and transform the data. Still performance data is a secret language only a couple of people understand.
