Building a Complete IoT Solution that Will Last 10 Years
With so much going on in this space you could be forgiven for thinking you
were always working with yesterday's technologies. So much change, so
quickly. What do you do if you have to build a solution from the ground up
that is expected to live in the field for at least 5-10 years?
This is the challenge we faced when we looked to refresh our existing
10-year-old custom hardware stack to measure the fullness of trash cans and
compactors.
In his session at @ThingsExpo, Alan Williamson, a principal at ParkerGale
Capital, will take a deep dive on some of the decisions they made and why
they went a given path, from utilizing custom boards to
single-board-computers, from cellular networks to LoRa and Sigfox, and
choosing the necessary software stack that can support this in the long run.

For SAP, 2016 will go down as the year of the partnership. The SAP/Apple
announcement took all the headlines, but SAP SAPPHIRE NOW featured many other
announcements affecting everything from SAP hosting to data visualization.
While it's understandable that those flashy announcements will get the most
attention, the implications of the new partnerships for big data might prove
to be the most important revelation.

In Privilege We Trust: Locking Down Super-Users for Maximum Cybersecurity
Privileged Identity Management (PIM) is the lowest common denominator in
today's most treacherous corporate and governmental security breaches. Or
more accurately: Privilege Mismanagement. Sony, Target, Anthem, JP Morgan
Chase, the city of San Francisco and many others succumbed to the reality
that the identity of a single super-user account can be subverted for the
purposes of manipulating sensitive organizational data, correspondence,
commercial goods and intellectual property.

This is the challenge we faced when we looked to refresh our existing 10-year-old custom hardware stack to measure the fullness of trash cans and compactors. Sep. 5, 2016 04:00 AM EDT Reads: 2,140 | By Elizabeth White Cloud computing is being adopted in one form or another by 94% of enterprises today. Tens of billions of new devices are being connected to The Internet of Things.
And Big Data is driving this bus. An exponential increase is expected in the amount of information being processed, managed, analyzed, and acted upon by enterprise IT. This amazing is not part of some distant future - it is happening today. One report shows a 650% increase in enterprise data by 2020. Other estimates are even higher.... Sep. 4, 2016 08:15 PM EDT Reads: 4,022 | By Elizabeth White Developing software for the Internet of Things (IoT) comes with its own set of challenges. Security, privacy, and unified standards are a few key issues. In addition, each IoT product is comprised of (at least) three separate application components: the software embedded in the device, the back-end service, and the mobile application for the end user’s controls. Each component is developed by a different team, using different technologies and practices, and deployed to a different stack/target –... We access our data, our finances, work, and various services on the Internet. But we live in a congested world of information in which the roads were built two decades ago. The quest for better, faster Internet routing has been around for a decade, but nobody solved this problem.
We’ve seen band aid approaches like CDNs that attack a niche's slice of static content part of the Internet, but that’s it. It does not address the dynamic services-based Internet of today. It doe...
