Building a Complete IoT Solution that Will Last 10 Years
With so much going on in this space you could be forgiven for thinking you
were always working with yesterday's technologies. So much change, so
quickly. What do you do if you have to build a solution from the ground up
that is expected to live in the field for at least 5-10 years?
This is the challenge we faced when we looked to refresh our existing
10-year-old custom hardware stack to measure the fullness of trash cans and
compactors.
In his session at @ThingsExpo, Alan Williamson, a principal at ParkerGale
Capital, will take a deep dive on some of the decisions they made and why
they went a given path, from utilizing custom boards to
single-board-computers, from cellular networks to LoRa and Sigfox, and
choosing the necessary software stack that can support this in the long run.

Holistic Method of IoTification
Almost two-thirds of companies either have or soon will have IoT as the
backbone of their business in 2016. However, IoT is far more complex than
most firms expected. How can you not get trapped in the pitfalls?
In his session at @ThingsExpo, Tony Shan, a renowned visionary and thought
leader, will introduce a holistic method of IoTification, which is the
process of IoTifying the existing technology and business models to adopt and
leverage IoT. He will drill down to the components in this framework:
Anatomy, Ramp-up, Use case, Business case, Arch... (more)
21 DevOps and Docker Reference Architectures
When building DevOps or continuous delivery practices you can learn a great
deal from others. What choices did they make, what practices did they put
in place, and how did they connect the dots?
At Sonatype, we pulled together a set of 21 reference architectures for
folks building continuous delivery and DevOps practices using Docker. Why?
After 3,000 DevOps professionals attended our webinar on "Continuous
Integration using Docker" discussing just one reference architecture example,
we recognized there was a strong interest in the c... (more)
Azure Resource Manager: The Shift from Services to Resources
In the first part of this series, we discussed the evolution of Azure IaaS
and role of Azure Resource Manager. The next installment of the series
explains the key differences between Azure Service Management (ASM) and Azure
Resource Management (ARM) models. We will also take a look at key concepts
and terminology related to ARM.
ASM or ARM?

As IoT technologies attempt to live up to their promises to solve real-world
problems and deliver consistent value for companies, there is still confusion
among businesses on how to collect, store, and analyze a massive amount of
IoT data generated from Internet-connected devices, both from industry and
consumers, and unlock its value. Many businesses that are looking to collect
and analyze IoT data are still unacquainted with the benefits and
capabilities the IoT analytics technology offers, or struggle with how to
analyze the data to continuously benefit their business in diffe... (more)
@CloudExpo Stories By Elizabeth White In his session at @ThingsExpo, Kausik Sridharabalan, founder and CTO of Pulzze Systems, Inc., will focus on key challenges in building an Internet of Things solution infrastructure. He will shed light on efficient ways of defining interactions within IoT solutions, leading to cost and time reduction. He will also introduce ways to handle data and how one can develop IoT solutions that are lean, flexible and configurable, thus making IoT infrastructure agile and scalable. Sep. 1, 2016 09:13 AM EDT | By Elizabeth White We are always online. We access our data, our finances, work, and various services on the Internet. But we live in a congested world of information in which the roads were built two decades ago. The quest for better, faster Internet routing has been around for a decade, but nobody solved this problem.
We’ve seen band aid approaches like CDNs that attack a niche's slice of static content part of the Internet, but that’s it. It does not address the dynamic services-based Internet of today. It doe... Sep. 1, 2016 09:00 AM EDT Reads: 905 | By Elizabeth White Data is an unusual currency; it is not restricted by the same transactional limitations as money or people. In fact, the more that you leverage your data across multiple business use cases, the more valuable it becomes to the organization. And the same can be said about the organization’s analytics.
In his session at 19th Cloud Expo, Bill Schmarzo, CTO for the Big Data Practice at EMC, will introduce a methodology for capturing, enriching and sharing data (and analytics) across the organizati... Sep. 1, 2016 03:00 AM EDT Reads: 1,958 | By Elizabeth White Today we can collect lots and lots of performance data. We build beautiful dashboards and even have fancy query languages to access and transform the data. Still performance data is a secret language only a couple of people understand. The more business becomes digital the more stakeholders are interested in this data including how it relates to business. Some of these people have never used a monitoring tool before. They have a question on their mind like “How is my application doing” but no id... Sep. 1, 2016 03:00 AM EDT Reads: 2,074 | By Elizabeth White Cloud computing is being adopted in one form or another by 94% of enterprises today. Tens of billions of new devices are being connected to The Internet of Things.
