Mergers & Acquisitions on Ulitzer
Oracle has offered to cordon off MySQL inside a combined Oracle-Sun to get
the European Commission to approve its $7.4 billion acquisition of Sun ahead
of a hearing set for next Thursday, according to the New York Post
The paper, quoting two unidentified sources, describes the vague Oracle
proposal as a “separate entity” that would put a “firewall” between
MySQL and the rest of Oracle and says it could involve a separate board.
Oracle has previously vowed to get the Sun acquisition, which has been
dragging on since April at great cost to Sun, clear... (more)
Activist investor Carl Icahn, who was found last week to have accumulated 6%
of Dell and is threatening to upset Michael Dell's plans to take the company
private, has signed a confidentiality pact with the company that will let him
look at its books.
The Blackstone Group has a similar deal.
A special committee of Dell's board has two weeks left to "go shop" and see
if it can top the $24.4 billion deal Michael and Silver Lake Partners have
put on the table. The committee said last week that it would welcome Icahn
into the process.

I’ve heard several clients complain about the curse of “orphaned analytics”; which are one-off analytics developed to address a specific business need but never “operationalized” or packaged for re-use across the organization. Unfortunately, many analytic organizations lack a framework for ensuring that the analytics are not being developed in a void. Organizations lack an overarching model to ensure that the resulting analytics and associated organizational intellectual capital can be captured and re-used across multiple use cases.
Every time I call up any customer support and hear the familiar 'all our representatives are busy dealing with other customers,' that my call is very important to them and from the more technologically advanced ones that I am 'fourth in the queue and my approximate wait time is 23 minutes,' I wonder why can't they simply call me back when they are free?
