As AT&Ts VP of Domain 2.0 architecture writes one aspect of their Domain 2.0 strategy is a goal to embrace a Microservices Application Architecture.
One page 9 they describe how these envisage them fitting into the ECOMP architecture:
"The initial steps of the recipes include a homing and placement task using constraints specified in the requests. ‘Homing and Placement' are micro-services involving orchestration, inventory, and controllers responsible for infrastructure, network, and application. The goal is to allow algorithms to use real-time network data and determine the most efficient use of available infrastructure capacity."
This was a scenario industry expert Tom Nolle envisaged, and vendors like Ciena have re-engineered their telco platform offering accordingly.
This last point highlights how they will interface with the DCAE big data smart management framework.
"Analytic applications are developed by various organizations, however, they all run in the DCAE framework and are managed by the DCAE controller. These applications are micro-services developed by a broad community and adhere to ECOMP Framework standards."
Cloud Transformation - From Monolith to Microservices
These goals highlight how they face the same challenges that every organization faces who want to embrace Microservices: Creating new apps is relatively easy, factoring in your existing legacy applications is an entirely different, very difficult challenge - A shift from ‘Monolith to Microservices‘.
As AT&T describes:
"The BSS transformation to support the dynamic D2 environment is based on the following: Building blocks - BSS migration from monolithic systems to a platform building block architecture that can enable upstream User Experience (UX) changes in how products are sold, ordered, and billed."
These service elements lead us into the final aspect of the AT&T program, their anticipated Business Transformation.
Page 24 provides a complete overview of the departmental functions they expect to require some form of modernization to reflect this new platform capability, such as Sales, Marketing and Billing capabilities.
"D2-based Offer/Products will be designed, created, deployed and managed in near real-time, rather than requiring software development cycles. ECOMP is the framework that provides service creation and operational management of D2 which enables significant reductions in the time and cost required to develop, deploy, operate and retire AT&Ts products, services and networks.
The Business Support Systems which care for such capabilities as sales, ordering, and billing will interact with ECOMP in the D2 architecture, and those systems will need to pivot to this new paradigm."

By Elizabeth White The essence of data analysis involves setting up data pipelines that consist of several operations that are chained together – starting from data collection, data quality checks, data integration, data analysis and data visualization (including the setting up of interaction paths in that visualization). In our opinion, the challenges stem from the technology diversity at each stage of the data pipeline as well as the lack of process around the analysis. May. 19, 2016 04:15 PM EDT Reads: 302 |

Developing solutions integrated with mobile applications that can anticipate your needs based upon your Code Halo data, the information that surrounds people, organizations, projects, activities and devices, and acting upon it automatically is where a large amount of productivity gains will be found in the future.
I spend a lot of time helping organizations to “think like a data scientist.” My book “Big Data MBA: Driving Business Strategies with Data Science” has several chapters devoted to helping business leaders to embrace the power of data scientist thinking. My Big Data MBA class at the University of San Francisco School of Management focuses on teaching tomorrow’s business executives the power of analytics and data science to optimize key business processes, uncover new monetization opportunities and create a more compelling, engaging customer and channel engagement.
Our CTO, Anders Wallgren, recently sat down to take part in the “B2B Nation: IT” podcast — the series dedicated to serving the IT professional community with expert opinions and advice on the world of information technology.
Listen to the great conversation, where Anders shares his thoughts on DevOps lessons from large enterprises, the growth of microservices and containers, and more.
Cloud computing changed data analytics for good. It enabled companies to drastically decrease resources and architecture previously assigned with business intelligence departments. It also enabled laymen to run advanced business analytics. Cloud was also the architecture of choice for storing and processing big data.
Data piling is a continuous process, which is going to explode with emerging Internet of Things concept. Answer to this issue developers found in new concept called fog computing. As opposed to clouds, fog computing architecture is capable of conducting all required computations ...
The benefits of efficiency and lower cost have been the primary drivers toward the cloud and SaaS deployments, but this is just the low-hanging fruit of a much greater body of potential. According to a Cisco-sponsored IDC report, a second wave of cloud adoption now targets a much more strategic set of benefits, with 54 percent of businesses surveyed expecting cloud to allow them to allocate IT budgets more strategically, and 53 percent looking to cloud solutions to increase revenues.
According to the Cisco study, cloud and SaaS adoption takes place along a spectrum, with ad hoc deployment on...
Since Gartner’s latest research around bimodal IT was published, the buzzword has been catching some serious heat. This week, the fires quell as we learn best practices to balance bimodal IT for success. Another buzzword picking up traction this week is Agile. Whether it’s in development, testing or leadership, every corner of the enterprise is adopting Agile to not only accelerate delivery times and improve product quality, but to ensure effective management as well. Continue reading for the latest trends in Bimodal IT, Agile, tech leadership and IoT.
The EMV liability shift that began in October 2015 is likely to reduce card present payment card fraud. That’s a double-edged sword for retailers with an online presence and those who accept mobile payments, as fraudsters are seeking easier routes to ill-gotten gain. Add to this the ongoing data breach environment that has become the new normal, and securing payment transactions has never been more significant.
Small teams are more effective. The general agreement is that anything from 5 to 12 is the 'right' small. But of course small teams will also have 'small' throughput - relatively speaking. So if your demand is X and the throughput of a small team is X/10, you probably need 10 teams to meet that demand. But more teams also mean more effort to coordinate and align their efforts in the same direction. So, the challenge is how to harness the power of small teams and yet orchestrate multiples of them to get higher throughput.
In the context of enterprise Agile, this is very critical.
