The battle over bimodal IT is heating up. Now that there’s a reasonably broad consensus that Gartner’s advice about bimodal IT is deeply flawed – consensus everywhere except perhaps at Gartner – various ideas are springing up to fill the void.
The bimodal problem, of course, is well understood. ‘Traditional’ or ‘slow’ IT uses hidebound, laborious processes that would only get in the way of ‘fast’ or ‘agile’ digital efforts. The result: incoherent IT strategies and shadow IT struggles that lead to dispersed, redundant, and risky technology choices across the organization.

Machine-to-machine (M2M) technology has impacted the healthcare sector heavily, unlike the trivial impact of the technology on an array of other verticals. M2M connected healthcare, which operates in an IT ecosystem, enables a range of healthcare service offerings, such as easy sharing of healthcare-related data pertaining to the medical history, personal information, diagnostic results, prescription information, clinical data, and other data regarding patients. The other uses of M2M connected healthcare lie in home monitoring, assisted living, clinical monitoring, and telemedicine.
Although we live in a new On Demand Economy defined by the likes of Uber, Airbnb, Facebook and Twitter among others, firms who clearly demonstrate that the strategic use of modern new technologies like Cloud and Mobile to generate huge increases in shareholder value, many still struggle with adoption and are failing to react to the competitive threat the trend represents.
As this IDC report shows only 25% of organizations have repeatable strategies for Cloud adoption, with 32% having no Cloud strategy at all. 
With the proliferation of both SQL and NoSQL databases, organizations can now target specific fit-for-purpose database tools for their different application needs regarding scalability, ease of use, ACID support, etc. Platform as a Service offerings make this even easier now, enabling developers to roll out their own database infrastructure in minutes with minimal management overhead. However, this same amount of flexibility also comes with the challenges of picking the right tool, on the right provider and with the proper expectations.

Earlier this week it was reported that researchers at Boston-based security company, Rapid7, identified several security flaws in an app connected to a new toy from Mattel's Fisher-Price brand.
