With DevOps Summit 2015 right around the corner, we’re upping the rewards and raising the bar

A little over five months ago, we turned the DevOps world on its head by turning a bunch of mild-mannered engineers and other web performance experts into ravenous, glory-seeking fiends who thought nothing of stepping on and over one another in their quest for the ultimate prize and a lifetime of glory.

Now, with DevOps Summit 2015 right around the corner, we’re upping the rewards and raising the bar. You may have emerged as a true web speed aficionado during the spring, but that alone isn’t going to cut it this time around. This time, we’ve upped the ante by expanding the realm of expertise on which you’ll be tested. After all, we’re adamant that performance is about more than just speed, so why limit the testing to just that area? Hence our decision to rebrand version 2.0 as the Ultimate DevOps Geek Quiz Challenge. This time, you’ll be tested on all things DevOps-related, from coding techniques to DNS architecture to the DevOps culture.

And because the knowledge base is broader, the payoff is going to be even better than the last time around, with first prize being a Gold conference pass to DevOps Summit in Santa Clara, CA, where you’ll have access to Cloud Expo, @ThingsExpo, Containers & Microservices Expo, Big Data Expo, WebRTC Summut, and DevOps Summit. And as if that wasn’t enough, we’ll also throw in a $500 travel voucher and the option to transfer the prize to the DevOps Summit in New York in June of next year.

But we’re not sending everyone home empty-handed, either. The second and third place contestants will have their pick of one four awesome tech toys, and anyone who finishes in the top 50 will get an Ultimate DevOps Geek t-shirt.

So what are you waiting for? Click the link below and start putting your skills to the test!

In demand-intensive mobile and web applications, an emerging pattern is to host the Systems of Engagement in the cloud (for maximum responsiveness) but keep the Systems of Record with the other important business systems in the company datacenter, often on a tightly secured mainframe. But what about the space in between? In this IBM Redpaper publication, we show that the IBM Bluemix cloud platform offers technologies that make it easy for cloud-based SoEs to securely connect to on-premises IBM mainframes, creating a fully secure, end-to-end, SoE-SoR environment.
"IoT is really hitting its stride. The adoption rates are increasing and Vitria is in a good position to help people deliver on the value of IoT," explained Mike Houston, Marketing & Product Marketing Professional at Vitria Technology, in this SYS-CON.tv interview at @ThingsExpo, held November 3-5, 2015, at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, CA.
"IoT is going to be a huge industry with a lot of value for end users, for industries, for consumers, for manufacturers. How can we use cloud to effectively manage IoT applications," stated Ian Khan, Innovation & Marketing Manager at Solgeniakhela, in this SYS-CON.tv interview at @ThingsExpo, held November 3-5, 2015, at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, CA.
The Internet of Things (IoT), in all its myriad manifestations, has great potential. Much of that potential comes from the evolving data management and analytic (DMA) technologies and processes that allow us to gain insight from all of the IoT data that can be generated and gathered. This potential may never be met as those data sets are tied to specific industry verticals and single markets, with no clear way to use IoT data and sensor analytics to fulfill the hype being given the IoT today.
Countless business models have spawned from the IaaS industry – resell Web hosting, blogs, public cloud, and on and on. With the overwhelming amount of tools available to us, it's sometimes easy to overlook that many of them are just new skins of resources we've had for a long time. In his general session at 17th Cloud Expo, Harold Hannon, Sr. Software Architect at SoftLayer, an IBM Company, broke down what we have to work with, discussed the benefits and pitfalls and how we can best use them to design hosted applications.
Electric power utilities face relentless pressure on their financial performance, and reducing distribution grid losses is one of the last untapped opportunities to meet their business goals. Combining IoT-enabled sensors and cloud-based data analytics, utilities now are able to find, quantify and reduce losses faster – and with a smaller IT footprint. Solutions exist using Internet-enabled sensors deployed temporarily at strategic locations within the distribution grid to measure actual line loads.
There are over 120 breakout sessions in all, with Keynotes, General Sessions, and Power Panels adding to three days of incredibly rich presentations and content.
