Big Data Becomes Fast and Accelerated with IoT
Download Slide Deck: ▸ Here
The Internet of Things is in the early stages of mainstream deployment but it
promises to unlock value and rapidly transform how organizations manage,
operationalize, and monetize their assets. IoT is a complex structure of
hardware, sensors, applications, analytics and devices that need to be able
to communicate geographically and across all functions. Once the data is
collected from numerous endpoints, the challenge then becomes converting it
into actionable insight.
In his session at @ThingsExpo, Mark Clayman, President and Chief Operating
Officer at TriCore Solutions, discussed how organizations are concerned that
their analytical tools and infrastructure will not support this next wave of
industrial revolution. The velocity of technological change and the speed of
business is outstripp... (more)
Is ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) still relevant in the
digital world?
The short answer is...yes.
The longer answer is: it depends on your organization's understanding and
application of ITIL.
In order to best answer the question it's important to take a step back and
examine the goals and intent of ITIL.
Quick refresher on ITIL
Documented Common Sense - Don Page
1. The best definition of ITIL comes from Dr. Don Page, one of the authors of
ITIL, who simply refers to it as ‘Documented Common Sense.'
2. Put differently, it's a set a good practices for IT servi... (more)
Developers are often caught between a rock and a hard place. They aren’t
allowed to employ the tricks of the trade that can squeeze more performance
out of their code because the consequences – technical debt stemming from
impaired maintainability - are generally considered even worse. It’s not
appropriate, for example, to use bit-shifting techniques to do simple
multiplication because while it might be milliseconds faster, it isn’t
always universally understood and thus can cause issues with long-term
maintainability.
While we (developers) like to joke that “if it was hard to w... (more)

Our shopping experiences continue to change. Today, we use smartphones,
tablets and laptops to shop, purchase and track shipments online, from
anywhere at any time. We bring mobile devices into retail stores to compare
prices and learn more about products on the shelf. We search for available
inventories, the nearest store locations, and for new, used, shared and
auctioned products and services. These digital transformations are profoundly
altering the nature of retailing, and their velocity will only accelerate.

Connected Teams, Connected Code, and the Connected Device: The Challenges of
IoT Software Delivery
Developing software for the Internet of Things (IoT) comes with its own set
of challenges. Security, privacy, and unified standards are a few key issues.
In addition, each IoT product is comprised of (at least) three separate
application components: the software embedded in the device, the backend
service, and the mobile application for the end user's controls. Each
component is developed by a different team, using different technologies and
practices, and deployed to a different ... (more)
@CloudExpo Stories By Liz McMillan The Internet of Things has the potential to disrupt all industries, not just consumer, as businesses leverage the new insights and capabilities enabled by new devices / things, automation, integration and analytics, etc., to transform how they do business.
One industry ripe for disruption is higher education. Colleges and universities are being challenged with serving more students and at the same time ensuring successful student outcomes.

They enable developers to work with dev, test, stage and production environments identically. Containers provide the right abstraction for microservices and many cloud platforms have integrated them into deployment pipelines. DevOps and containers together help companies achieve their business goals faster and more effectively.

Jan. 10, 2016 12:00 AM EST Reads: 648 | By Liz McMillan There are many considerations when moving applications from on-premise to cloud. It is critical to understand the benefits and also challenges of this migration. A successful migration will result in lower Total Cost of Ownership, yet offer the same or higher level of robustness. Migration to cloud shifts computing resources from your data center, which can yield significant advantages provided that the cloud vendor an offer enterprise-grade quality for your application. Jan. 9, 2016 11:45 PM EST Reads: 885 | By Pat Romanski "Storage is growing. All of IDC's estimates say that unstructured data is now 80% of the world's data. We provide storage systems that can actually deal with that scale of data - software-defined storage systems," stated Paul Turner, Chief Product and Marketing Officer at Cloudian, in this SYS-CON.tv interview at 17th Cloud Expo, held November 3-5, 2015, at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, CA. Jan. 9, 2016 10:45 PM EST Reads: 640 | By Liz McMillan Learn how IoT, cloud, social networks and last but not least, humans, can be integrated into a seamless integration of cooperative organisms both cybernetic and biological. This has been enabled by recent advances in IoT device capabilities, messaging frameworks, presence and collaboration services, where devices can share information and make independent and human assisted decisions based upon social status from other entities.

Jan. 9, 2016 09:00 PM EST Reads: 236 | By Aruna Ravichandran At year-end, we often consider where we’ve fallen short over the last twelve months – and how we can do better over the next twelve. For IT leaders, DevOps is likely to be a primary concern for 2016. As application awesomeness becomes more important to the business, IT must get great code into production faster. DevOps success is thus imperative – especially if you’re competing against digital-first market disrupters.
DevOps, though, isn’t just about engineering better processes. It’s also abou...
