Matrix: The Missing Signaling Layer for WebRTC?
WebRTC defines no default signaling protocol, causing fragmentation between
WebRTC silos. SIP and XMPP provide possibilities, but come with considerable
complexity and are not designed for use in a web environment.
In his session at Internet of @ThingsExpo, Matthew Hodgson, technical
co-founder of the Matrix.org, will discuss how Matrix is a new non-profit

PubNub released an open source template to allow developers to add Skype-like
video chat into their apps. The free template provides a fully functional
video chat platform using WebRTC, PubNub and Google Authentication for a
global, reliable collaboration solution.
"While the WebRTC protocol has created huge excitement as a way to deliver
video chat ubiquitously, there's still a gap between the protocol itself and
the ability to deploy a working, globally scaled, collaboration application
using this technology," said Stephen Blum, CTO and co-founder of PubNub. ... (more)
Slide Deck: The True Meaning of the Voice-Enabled Web
Since the initial buzz of WebRTC, the ability to enable browser-to-browser
applications for voice calling, video chat and P2P file sharing without
plugins has been touted as a potential game changer for many industries. What
are the parameters around this technology and its placement? Is it secure
enough for prime time? Will WebRTC magnify OTT threat for telcos? Is WebRTC
really that big of a deal for consumers?
In his session at WebRTC Summit, Keith McFarlane, Chief Technology Officer at
LiveOps, discussed the future of WebRT... (more)

@ThingsExpo Stories By Elizabeth White As organizations realize the scope of the Internet of Things, gaining key insights from Big Data, through the use of advanced analytics, becomes crucial. However, IoT also creates the need for petabyte scale storage of data from millions of devices. A new type of Storage is required which seamlessly integrates robust data analytics with massive scale. These storage systems will act as “smart systems” provide in-place analytics that speed discovery and enable businesses to quickly derive meaningful and actionable insights.
In his session at @ThingsExpo, Paul Turner, Chief Marketing Officer at... Nov. 18, 2015 10:30 PM EST Reads: 159 | By Liz McMillan Cloud computing delivers on-demand resources that provide businesses with flexibility and cost-savings. The challenge in moving workloads to the cloud has been the cost and complexity of ensuring the initial and ongoing security and regulatory (PCI, HIPAA, FFIEC) compliance across private and public clouds. Manual security compliance is slow, prone to human error, and represents over 50% of the cost of managing cloud applications. Determining how to automate cloud security compliance is critical to maintaining positive ROI. Raxak Protect is an automated security compliance SaaS platform and ma... Nov. 18, 2015 07:45 PM EST Reads: 436 | By Liz McMillan Microservices are a very exciting architectural approach that many organizations are looking to as a way to accelerate innovation. Microservices promise to allow teams to move away from monolithic "ball of mud" systems, but the reality is that, in the vast majority of organizations, different projects and technologies will continue to be developed at different speeds.
How to handle the dependencies between these disparate systems with different iteration cycles? Consider the "canoncial problem" in this scenario: microservice A (releases daily) depends on a couple of additions to backend B (re... Nov. 18, 2015 06:45 PM EST Reads: 162 | By Jennifer Gill The cloud. Like a comic book superhero, there seems to be no problem it can’t fix or cost it can’t slash. Yet making the transition is not always easy and production environments are still largely on premise. Taking some practical and sensible steps to reduce risk can also help provide a basis for a successful cloud transition.
A plethora of surveys from the likes of IDG and Gartner show that more than 70 percent of enterprises have deployed at least one or more cloud application or workload. Yet a closer inspection at the data reveals less than half of these cloud projects involve production... Nov. 18, 2015 06:45 PM EST Reads: 261 | By Pat Romanski PubNub has announced the release of BLOCKS, a set of customizable microservices that give developers a simple way to add code and deploy features for realtime apps.PubNub BLOCKS executes business logic directly on the data streaming through PubNub’s network without splitting it off to an intermediary server controlled by the customer. This revolutionary approach streamlines app development, reduces endpoint-to-endpoint latency, and allows apps to better leverage the enormous scalability of PubNub’s Data Stream Network. Nov. 18, 2015 01:15 PM EST Reads: 353 | By Elizabeth White The Internet of Things (IoT) is growing rapidly by extending current technologies, products and networks. By 2020, Cisco estimates there will be 50 billion connected devices. Gartner has forecast revenues of over $300 billion, just to IoT suppliers. Now is the time to figure out how you’ll make money – not just create innovative products.
With hundreds of new products and companies jumping into the IoT fray every month, there’s no shortage of innovation. Despite this, McKinsey/VisionMobile data shows "less than 10 percent of IoT developers are making enough to support a reasonably sized team.... Nov. 18, 2015 12:00 PM EST Reads: 354 | By Peter Silva According to eMarketer.com, wearable usage will grow almost 60% in 2015 verses 2014. This year, almost 40 million U.S. adults will use wearables, including smartwatches and fitness trackers. And that’s only 16% of the penetrable market. They expect that number double in two years with close to 82 million adults wearing something connected by 2018. Almost two in five internet users by 2019. Nov. 18, 2015 09:30 AM EST Reads: 309 | By Scott Allen Being heavily entrenched in the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and Machine-to-Machine (M2M) technology markets, I often have the opportunity to speak with customers, partners, and analysts about sensor-to-server communication and what technology advances are on the horizon that will benefit the industry. A few of the hot buttons right now are big data and predictive analytics.
The idea of comparing data in motion (at the sensor level) to data at rest (in a big data server warehouse) with predictive analytics in the cloud is very appealing to many industrial customers. The problem the ... Nov. 18, 2015 08:45 AM EST Reads: 453 |
